I remember someone saying a quote once that went along the lines of this:

"If you truly wanted to live your life without using any product that was harmful to the environment in some way, you would be butt naked in a gutter drinking rain water."

There's a difference between buying a new cellphone and helping sustain a form of currency for which one form alone consumes nearly 100TW per hour.
Just because you're cornered here and there into having an environmental footprint, doesn't mean that anything is good to go.
