I can't express how smooth-brained this take is.

I joined FFXIV since ARR and supported FF14 . I haven’t bought a single standalone FF game since FF8.I believe one the worst thing happened to FF brands was ENIX buying the Square, however I have been playing FF because I like FF. I Hate square Enix as company , but I still give them my money because they have the IP of FF.
HOWEVER, if this NFT thing goes through I am done with with FF brand ,I have moral obligation to not stand by see people get scammed. CEO is stupid is getting too greedy and they will shoot themselves on the foot.
SE seems to be as EVIL as EA but since it is Japanese company it is getting a pass?

I'm not sure if it's my age, or the fact I am not business or tech savvy but I don't understand most of what is being said in that letter. What I do understand is this quote..
This really shows a lack of regard for a majority of their customers. I do Understand they(SE) are a business and we are a source of income but would it hurt to not make it so obvious?I realize that some people who “play to have fun” and who currently form the majority of players have voiced their reservations toward these new trends, and understandably so. However, I believe that there will be a certain number of people whose motivation is to “play to contribute,” by which I mean to help make the game more exciting. Traditional gaming has offered no explicit incentive to this latter group of people, who were motivated strictly by such inconsistent personal feelings as goodwill and volunteer spirit. This fact is not unrelated to the limitations of existing UGC (user-generated content). UGC has been brought into being solely because of individuals’ desire for self-expression and not because any explicit incentive existed to reward them for their creative efforts. I see this as one reason that there haven’t been as many major game-changing content that were user generated as one would expect.
Can someone who understands NFT/blockchain explain with examples in an objective manner how IF this were to come to FFXIV what form it would take?
Hopefully people are making enough of a fuss about this that they'll just do a 180.
Just imagine building this much of goodwill then doing this... SE, you had one of your most fantastic financial year... Just stop the greed, you know how it ends, either you are going to break your uptime, or get a raid wipe.

Facebook, or now "meta" is one of the most exploitive companies of people and their information that there is. The CEO is sorely out of touch if he is using Facebook as a company to look to as paving the way of the future. Facebook is a horrible company and Square Enix following in their footsteps is a huge red flag. Somebody wake that man up.
You know... I had never posted here before. But I had to come here to say something about this letter.
This letter is deeply unsettling. It sounds like Square Enix is 100% ready to get into a ship that barely anyone understands and those that do say it's a scam (and I agree). And there's also the fact that the letter treats people that "play to have fun" as a subset of the consumer base. Dude... We all play to have fun. If the people that make money out of games don't have fun, they are in the wrong business.
I already had a friend come over to me and say that he would not be trying out FFXIV after this letter. So, this letter alone is already hurting this game (and certainly other Square Enix games as well).
In the best case scenario, this letter was put out there just to please investors/shareholders, but that is still wrong. These are the words of someone that is totally out of touch with the consumer — I believe that is the most worrisome thing. And let me tell you... No investor/shareholder will be pleased if your company once again gets on the verge of bankruptcy because it's out of touch with the consumer.
Two things:
"However, we do observe examples here and there of overheated trading in NFT-based digital goods with somewhat speculative overtones, regardless of the observed value of the content provided This, obviously, is not an ideal situation, but I expect to see an eventual right-sizing in digital goods deals as they become more commonplace among the general public, with the value of each available content corrected to their true estimated worth, and I look for them to become as familiar as dealings in physical goods."
and
https://token.emusic.com/
There are NFTs (gods, what a stupid acronym - 'tokens' have been around for decades) that are not about cryptocurrency and do not require a million GPUs suddenly crying out in the void.
Then again, there's this to worry about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTMF6xEiAaY
That is definitely about NFTs in their worst in-game configuration, although the term "NFT" doesn't appear in the video.
Imagine thinking cryptos are good for the enviroment lmao.
I don't know how people are surprised about this, SE has always been like this: just another greedy corporation. For years we have seen the cash shop being milked with almost no reinvestment of said income to the game. Now we going just another step down the stairs. What amuses me the most is the people who was defending the cruise chaser mount being taken off the game and put behind a paywall now suddenly drawing a line on "not real" products being transactioned... lmao.
You get what you encourage people. As we say over my lands: "Cria cuervos y te sacaran los ojos" - "Rise crows and they will rip your eyes".
"The will of my friends has etched into my heart, and now ill transform this infinite darkness into eternal light
Unmatched in heaven and earth, one body and one soul that challenge the gods!"
I can't do much about the NFT trend but I can choose to not financially support it however small that may be.
So after almost 9 years, I guess I'm finally done.
