Quite simple for me.
I will not play any crypto or NFT game, as long these are mostly used for fraudulent activitys.
That would include FFxiv.
I just hope that some countrys start doing something about them, they use unnecessary much energy and 99.9% of them are just pure fraud in a trenchcoat.
FF7R and KH3 are Unreal engine games.you know that ff14 did create tons of benefit, they don't need this for pay for the new server... they need to stop spending cash stupidly... or have bad commercial decision. example: exclusive launch on EGS, have a part of the content exclusive to some plateform (yes i talk of the debacle of marvel avenger). they need to stop to look at short term gain...
Unreal Engine is 5% base royalty if you sell outside of Epic Store, whereas it's already included in the 12% Epic store cut, and they probably got a sweeter deal from Epic by going exclusive. That's a lot of revenue for a AAA game vs Steam.
Your personal feelings don't matter, making money matters, and it's selling hot.

There's not much else that needs to be said about this. The vast, vast majority of crypto activity is intended to scam people, and integrating it into a video game like ffxiv would be, at very best, a wow token-esque proxy RMT situation. The day they infect FFXIV with with it is the day I quit.
On the flipside, including NFTs in FFXIV would get the game kicked off Steam. SE has bottom-line motivation to not include them.
But careful reading of the SE president's letter suggests they're looking into using them for new games. Though that doesn't give me any more respect for the decision, it does at least suggest it's not coming to FF14 or other existing games. I wouldn't be surprised if they're targeting mobile, even, considering Samsung already keeps trying to get me to turn on crypto mining through their official software.
we are digressing at this point, but just a food for your thought... EGS barely have 200-250 million account, most of them is fortnite by the way. when steam is pass the 1.000 million... 5% is nothing compared to the market lost by exclusivity... by the way, if that was selling this much, they will not plan to sell it on steam too... from the get go it's short terms gain... by selling on both shop from the get go they will have touched more people. the reason behind exclusivity is because egs give cash that all not a story of cut on ue or this mythical 12%FF7R and KH3 are Unreal engine games.

Can you really expect a company to leave profits on the table? To me this just seems like a new form of micro transactions we lost that battle and now blockchain/nft are the new battlefield. I for one am interested in seeing what they do, as everyone knows when it comes to investing you only put in what you are comfortable with losing, I am not sure why people call it a scam common sense is all you need to protect yourself. I for one am interested in seeing what they do with it.If you want to invest your money in speculative assets to resell to other speculators (or someone who needs to pay off a ransomware gang or international heroin smugglers), have at it.
NFTs are a laughably ridiculous scam that we do not want in our games. They add no value to games. Period. Game companies clearly see NFTs as the next big way to separate players from their money. SE is not the only company doing this (or talking about doing it), and it is imperative that all gamers everywhere make clear that we will not tolerate it.
It is not exactly clear what FFXIV NFTs would look like, and much of Matsuda's letter was a borderline-meaningless word salad of techbro idiotspeak ("Leveraging cloud technologies is extremely effective... as a catalyst for creating new forms of excitement that expand upon the content development capabilities for which we are known."). Maybe the ownership history of every plot of land could be recorded on the blockchain for no one to ever go look at. Maybe they would layer a "token economy" over the regular gil economy like WoW did. But, you know, with blockchain. For some reason. The point is that there's no good answer to the question. Whatever SE's "blockchain gaming" might look like, it is axiomatically worse than what we have already.
Keep working on the language recognition and AI modeling stuff. That's great. Try out cloud-based gaming. Sure. Whatever. But keep this NFT/blockchain trash away from our games.
Microtransactions were already scummy and i never liked them.
Now NFT's are a brand new WeF Stakeholder scam pushed by them on the whole industry just so you spend your money in useless drenches, but the goal is a "reaction". Of course.
Imagine if you will, squenix already making a killing this year and feeling like adding a new layer of grindfest in all of their games, playing 600 hours to unlock a skin or just the ability to display high res textures, because the nft is tied to a specific copyrighted function in your future games, or your glams. But you can also play 5 000 hours if you don't want to pay the nft pack allowing you direct access to these new raids !
Just artificially cutting your "experience" in more parcels and selling it to you, you should be very skeptical of the move, yes, but it's also "in your face" / a very, very gross and vulgar parting of their usual ways, so much so, it's not "natural".
Now with some discernment between these lines :
This attempt from the WeF is just a "purposefull" exposure of "evil" in every sector, The goal is just the same as the rest of the world policies that we have saw these past 3 years, uprising / rebellion from every corner / side and spectrums that leads to a "solution" out of the "chaos" they are newly introducing themselves by, unfortunately, preying on the greed of these Ceo idiots playing along. They stand to profit from the regulation and the overall negative reaction of the general public.
This is just blatant / unnatural corporate greed introduced all of a sudden these past few months, in every sector of this "industry", so coordinated you better be thinking about it.
The equation is simple :
Introducing a problem with a system you didn't ask and vote for, to introduce an even more outrageous regulation and over the top control (over you, in the end, not these companies and not on these "practices".) you absolutely didn't ask for neither, but making you kind of, ask for it, from the "reaction" it creates.
I'm also incredibly disappointed that SE would give in that scenario. I thought of them better and to be more Professional than to cave in this.

That is correct. But SE has still given Yoshi-P full control over the game (except for the ffxiv store) He has said this himself multiple times, he has in fact also said he never would do something that could make the players mad
At least they were not forcing you to adhere to a doll economy, you would buy it if you were that huge of a nerd and liked it, nft's are a whole new layer of scam that will, just like crysta's or mtx in general, finally force you into the paradigm / currency / tokenomics. You still have the choice to not buy merch surrounding a game, nft's will not give you a choice if the concept is "really" taken and brought to it's conclusion.
