Getting 142 FPS windowed bordered but full screen capped at 138 fps

I don't know why the game is capped at 142fps instead of 144 and because of that I can't use my LG's ultra responsive mode but when I play full-screen I am capped at 138FPS but in full screen borderless I am capped at 142fps.

None of the other games that I have played which support 144fps have this issue.

    Specs:
    Windows 10, 19043
    PC Download Client (Not-Steam)
    3080 RTX (ASUS)
    i9 10850k Processor
    64gb RAM (Forgot the frequency)
Page filing is set to automatic
    DX12
    Not overclocking

    In-game configuration
Resolution: 4k (Doesn't matter, it caps it no matter how low I go)
Graphical settings: Max everything (Even on lowest it is capped the same way)

Hey, so although this is a bug report, there's some tips that might help.

First would be... how are you measuring FPS? The in-game counter doesn't seem to be that reliable (at least not for high precision measurements), there's some rounding and/or averaging going on.

Secondly, even if you're measuring it accurately, there are some peculiarities about how FF14 handles frames and sometimes slowdowns do happen for a single frame, presumably due to a bottleneck. You might want to look into/google "ff14 121 FPS optimization" to get into the nitty gritty about all of that. (Long story short, 120 FPS is about optimal with how FF14 processes stuff but you go to 121 to alleviate a bottleneck drop to 119; but all of that may also help you find out why you're stopping short of 144). And, you may go above 144 if you uncap your frames entirely because of the peculiarities of FF14's processing.

Thanks for responding! I measure it using the in-game FPS counter, nothing else. I usually just use whatever the game provides to tell me. But I do know that I can't use "Faster" response time on my monitor with FF14 because it will create a ghosting kind of effect. The FPS is uncapped and nvidia isn't given permission to override the in-game settings either. I don't use geshade or reshade, whatever it's called so it's all whatever FF gives me.

The weirdest thing is that Full-screen should reach better performance than Windowed full-screen. For that I am capped at 138fps. Mind you that no matter where I am in the game, I get about max FPS even in hunt trains. They did a phenomenal job optimizing this game!

Typically it does. For me it does. I'm not sure why you lose FPS in true fullscreen, that is indeed very odd.

Just in the off chance this data point is helpful, I ran through some performance indicators just now in windowed fullscreen - I get about 220 FPS (165~180 at 99th%) uncapped (near the Reah Tahra aetheryte), and when I vsync to my 165hz monitor, the in game counter reports 164 FPS. Nvidia's counter also reports 164~165, with a 99th percentile of 145~155 FPS (There's your reason for why FF14 can't quite hit a vsync cap). All of these values are what I'd expected. Also not using any shader injectors or anything like that, just pure vanilla FF14.

I don't know much about special monitor modes, though, so I'm sorry to say I don't think I can be of any more help. I hope you get it figured out, though.
