This is isn't china. You can't keep everyone from doing things. Is this really Square-Enix's stance on things. If so the it is a little possessive. I can't even imagine babysitting millions of peoples computers
Despite the posts above, it actually is their official stance. They're not out of touch - in a live letter, Yoshi P used these as examples for why they don't give specific advice for specific apps. Another example he used is using microsoft excel to calculate DPS from a copy pasted battlelog. Technically it falls afoul of the TOS, but in practice it would be ridiculous to enforce - but because making "per app" distinctions would never end, they have a blanket policy of using third party apps with FF14 in any way is not allowed.

Please note that I am not agreeing with their stance. But that's what they've said it is and that's their explanation.

Here's an exact quote on that segment:
For example, it’s not done in real time and after the battle is over, the battle log is still left right? So opening the log data, copying the data left on the log, then pasting that into Excel, so like I’m a developer, I actually have and make a lot of Excel macros. So at first, I just do additions, combining just the numbers, so like there is a macro if I just add the log file, it would automatically calculate all the numbers like a stylesheet, because it’s convenient for myself you know? So in that case if you ask if Excel is an external tool… Well personally, I won’t accept it, if something is prohibited, then it’s prohibited. Even if it just does basic functions, it’s still an external tool, so, please DON’T use it.
And here is the full translation if you're curious.

So, to reiterate. Their policy is no third party apps/tools/etc, period.
