Oh and in case you're wondering why they changed the stance....

Turns out Yoshida runs ACT for doing Ultimates and has uploaded parses
...This is literally the exact segment I posted a translation for. Yeah someone clipped it for convenience.

So, SE hasn't changed their policy. Third party tools are still not allowed, full stop. (Of course, there's a ton of nuance to it, like "don't ask don't tell", they probably won't enforce against Discord even though it's technically against ToS, etc)

Now, they especially dislike harassment and you're especially likely to get in trouble for that. But if you talk about your tools in game, even without harassing anyone, or otherwise give SE any evidence that you're using stuff, you could still get in trouble.

Note that I don't support this policy, but I don't like leading people to believe that they can't get in trouble for their third party stuff.

The upshot of what Yoshida said, what people seem to have trouble getting their head around.

"Stop reporting people for this, we can't prove it, we have no intention of proving it, just stop"

"However, if they happen to be using it to harass someone, calling out their performance for instance and there's clear evidence they are using the tool, report them, they will be handled for harassment first, third party tools second"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH1TapwM4mE is the original video. Correct me if I'm wrong, but February 6th, 2020 is a little more than 5 months ago.

It's the difference between what the laws or rules say, and what actually gets enforced. It's the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.

The laws say you can't drive over the speed limit. However, it's unlikely the police will stop you if you're driving only 1mph over the limit. They will stop you if you're driving 50mph over the limit, because that's additional danger and risk to everyone else on the road.

The rules say you can't use third-party tools. However, it's unlikely a GM will stop you if you keep your parses to yourself and seek only to improve your DPS. The GMs will stop you if you start using parses to harass other players, because that's inflicting harm on others.

And that's a good point, just it doesn't imply third party tools are authorized. So, yes, agree 100%, but again, I don't want people thinking "Oh SE said these things are OK actually" when they didn't. Those people in Limsa using a memory editor to pose their character can get in trouble and the evidence is directly visible in game for GMs to see. Even if it's unlikely, SE hasn't gone "Yep you're cool because you're not harassing anyone."

(But I still hold out hope that one day, SE will change their mind and give us an official mod system so we're not constantly worrying about which line to toe...)

Agree 100%. But that's different from saying SE allows stuff. The issue was earlier, people were claiming certain things were allowed. Officially, they're not. Chance of enforcement for some things is close to zero. But that doesn't mean authorized.

While I would not be surprised if Yoshi-P runs ACT since he is actually involved in the JP raiding scene, I thought his FFLogs parses were all uploaded by other folks who ran with him? (Either for their own personal improvement/recordkeeping, or for the "HOLY SHIT I WAS JUST IN A SAVAGE RECLEAR PARTY WITH YOSHI-P I GOTTA UPLOAD THIS SO I CAN LINK IT TO FOLKS." factor.)

Rewatching the video there's a cheeky little knowing smile he makes. He totally uses it.

This steered way off what OP was even posting about. He was confused how he going to be able to join a static with out the use ACT and discord being on a ps4. Some how as usual the anti parser community and the pro parser community went at it again, and this poor fellows question was lost in the battle.

The answer OP: discord on your phone, and find a buddy to parse you so you can get better. Also you just join pugs 90% of the time some one is parsing and uploading.

Bless your heart for actually listening.
