Parsing unfair but okay?

This steered way off what OP was even posting about. He was confused how he going to be able to join a static with out the use ACT and discord being on a ps4. Some how as usual the anti parser community and the pro parser community went at it again, and this poor fellows question was lost in the battle.

The answer OP: discord on your phone, and find a buddy to parse you so you can get better. Also you just join pugs 90% of the time some one is parsing and uploading.

What's unfair is expecting others to carry people that simply aren't up to the task through content. Learning is fine, but there comes a time where you need to excuse yourself from a group if you know you are dragging it down. It's the moral thing to do.

The only reason FFLogs bothers me is because it's generating a permanent performance record you cannot escape from as long you're partying with people running parsers, and players can/will aggressively judge you even in parties that don't explicitly state that they're checking your logs and what not. Hiding your logs is not a solution and tends to just make you subject to even more scrutiny.

I am happy doing enough DPS to clear and not be a liability; researching my job on the Balance discord and practicing my rotation until it's firmly ingrained in my memory, but I live in constant concern of running into closet elitists who expect more then is actually needed and the simple notion that the website enables this kind of behavior in the first place is irksome. And yes, I have been wordlessly kicked from reclear groups and blacklisted for reasons I can only assume to be DPS related (This was before the party had even finished filling so it was painfully obvious they were screening people).

FFLogs likely could've avoided abusive use by making it so anyone who is not registered on the website or is choosing to hide their logs basically doesn't exist and simply shows as "anonymous" in any parses involving them. The entire reason I even learned the website existed in the first place was because of someone telling me my FFLogs parses sucked (Which was pretty stupid considering I had like...one death-laden secondhand parse actually logged for the fight I was being criticized on which was a door boss).

I think the thing people should be focusing on is that the original poster is having a difficult time finding a static because other players are expecting them to provide parser logs showing their performance.

Let's pretend third-party parse tools just didn't work in this game, and so they simply weren't something our community could use. Can we all agree that would remove the current hurdle the original poster is facing?

So, for this player, essentially a third party tool is creating a barrier for access. Isn't that the whole problem with parsing tools the developers wanted to avoid?

A static group requiring parse logs is a long way away from using a parser to harmlessly monitor your own performance for the purpose of self-improvement.

It's the nature of MMOs that groups that want a certain type of player will always have some way to filter. For groups like this if it wasn't logs it'd be "please upload a video of you clearing this fight, so we can see if you know your rotation" or checking people's lodestones for gear/achievements. Getting rid of parsing would just kill off a lot of the raid scene (considering how many people literally only login after getting their gear just to try and improve their own numbers for fun since they don't have anything else to do after that) while not actually doing anything to remove barriers to entry.

That said I've literally seen a pf listing requiring certain DPS like twice in 6 years of playing, and statics have the right by definition to filter applicants based on what they are looking for

When did they add a Necro job in game? This thread was dead for a month and a half. Leave it. I realize it's the perfect thread to bring up to troll people in, but geez.

I'd also much rather be measured objectively by someone than someone guessing whether people are good or not.
