Confused about the average item level

So my friend and I are taking the game chill so we at the moment have a mix of 560-570 gear.

We wanted to try the new raid however it wouldn't let us saying how our item level was too low but...It wasn't

I had an item level of 565 and he had 564 but this is where it gets weird. We both had 5 items at 570 and 6 items at 560 yet for whatever reason his average came out lower than mine.

I had chestpiece, helmet, bracer, ring and weapon at 570 and he had ring, bracer, necklace, earring and boots.

Someone told me that the weapon makes a difference but...it shouldn't right?

The maths shouldn't change right? As with both of us the total item level of our gear is still 6210 then divided by 11 comes out 564.54 what I would assume is rounded up that allowed me to get to 565 but for him it didn't round up???

Did you or him have a shield that can change your item level. Theres been times when have been gathering and says have 100% gathering rate but still fail to gather think because it round it up. They might have fixed it where doesn't round up anymore.

    Weapon counts twice.
So in terms of ratio of 570:560 gear, you've got 6:6 and you're friend has 5:7.

It's because of offhand weapons, so blame Paladin for having a shield. XD

Paladin therefore is the only job where the weapon (sword only) doesn't count twice, because it has the shield as an additional peice.

Different pieces of gear have a different weight. So one piece may contribute more than another.

The weapon makes a difference because it is a part of your overall item level.

You can reach 560 with your free job gear, 570 with tomestones and a lot of 580 gear can come from the extreme trials and the new raids. Next week our journey to 600 begins.

Weapon usually counts as 2 ilv, I noticed this when upping my ilv for the raid, each accessory I changed took it up by 1ilv, my weapon raised it by 2ilv even though they were the same in terms of upgraded level if that makes sense?

the item level formula is mean[2*mean(main hand, off hand), hat, chest, gloves, pants, boots, earring, necklace, bracelet, right ring, left ring], with empty slots counting as 0. The thrust is that weapons for non-PLD, non-crafter classes count twice for the averaging.
