Add Emote Hiding at Options Menu --> A serious suggestion for a better experience.

Look at your chat window. See the gear at the bottom? It will say "Chat Log Settings". Click that.
Scroll down the "Log Filters" area.
Choose a tab that you would like to apply the filter to.
Click that tab, then scroll to the bottom. You will see an option square for "Standard Emotes" and "Custom Emotes".
"Standard Emotes" are the ones you are talking about. Please click to disable that (make the square become grey).
"Custom Emotes" is when people write emotes to each other (for example, /em pokes the very muscular femroe). Please click to disable that if that is your wish to not see that either (make the square become grey).

If you are someone who does not like to see emotes, this is what you should do.
If you are someone who likes to emote but you worry someone might yell at you, fear not. They have no right to yell at you, because they can simply turn it off. Their laziness is not your responsibility. However, if you wish to avoid the conversation altogether, you can open your Emotes window and deselect "Display Log Message" to turn your emoting off from showing in peoples chats to begin with. But understand that before anyone complains, it is important that they turn it off themselves too instead of popping their eyes out onto their screen over seeing something that they can easily remove themselves.
