Is there a lore reason for why we can fall from great heights?

In dungeons and raids, you see our characters jump or fall from massively high areas by just landing on their feet, usually when transitioning between areas. Just as there is a lore reason we can breathe underwater, is there one for why we can survive such huge falls?
