    There's ZERO lore reasons because you take fall damage in PvP, it's just simply a convenience mechanic for PvE.

    Lore reason is because people complained about having to stop and heal after jumping off one of those cliffs back in ARR and HW. That being said, I kind of miss extreme heights being fatal like in most MMOs

    Well technically there are real world accounts of people falling from some insane heights and surviving.

    We would just be using aether subconsciously to either dampen the shock similar to how a cat manages to avoid serious injuries from falling by relaxing itself and landing in a particular manner or just a literal slowfall effect that manages to keep us from achieving terminal velocity.

    To be perfectly honest, it is pretty dumb and there is no excuse for it. I would rather have it so that falling from a great enough height will kill you, but whenever you die you can just revive at the nearest aetheryte. A feeling of danger around being high up and being nervous about what could happen if you fall, makes navigating the terrain more exciting. I suppose that sort of dynamic is somewhat diminished in a game where you can easily unlock flying mounts and elevation is of no importance, though.
