I think its pretty obvious that someone on the development team fell in love with Living Shadow so much that they cannibalized future ideas for DRK and made Reaper.

if only they loved it enough to make it interesting like being able to keep it on the field by sacrificing darkness or refresh with every flood/edge use. Nerfed potency of course. Or maybe just not have it on a 120 second CD since not everyone thinks using all your skills every 60-120s is thrilling gameplay.
