    Reapers in Garlemald

How are reapers regarded in Garlemald? I know they arose out of necessity to defend against invaders - given that they successfully achieved this goal, would they have been regarded as folk heroes (despite the whole Voidsent demon shtick)? I also wonder how reapers are treated/thought of in modern Garlemald, given the Empire's reliance on magitek. With the advent of such technology, I'm assuming that reapers became more and more obsolete. How would a Garlean citizen feel if they met a reaper - would they still regard them with a kind of reverence ("like oh wow, these people are using the discipline that saved our country a long time ago") or would it be disgust and fear? I would imagine that seeing a fellow Garlean channel void magic wouldn't be very inspiring, given their attitude towards all things magical.

The reapers in Eorzea watch out for Garleans who have fled the empire after growing sick of its evil. They take care of the imperial deserters in Thanalan and regard them as family

As for Garlemald proper I'm not how far along you are in the Reaper questline, but
They stay hidden and exist to strike down corruption in political and social leaders, similar to dark knights in Ishgard. Drusella's grandfather tried to assassinate Emet in the empire's early days, though obviously didn't succeed.

I would imagine most Garleans probably don't even know they exist, that they're a rumor at most. And given the almost cultlike mentality Garleans hold, the reapers'actions against Garlean leaders probably isn't seen in a good light.

That basically what Reapers were during the early years of the Garlean Empire's development.

The silent guardians of Garlemald in the darkness assassinating corruption and injustice from within the Garlean government and regions around their country to protect their country from dangers within their own people.

They are basically a organization of Batmans for the Garlean Empire until they were forced to flee Garlemald due to Garlean Empire's policy changes. Now they are basically just a Mafia helping garleans and those who are escaping garlean empire controlled locations have a life in Ul'dah. Their organization survive in Ul'dah mostly doing criminal underworld jobs in Ul'dah which is the most lucrative jobs in Ul'dah due to how corrupted the Ul'dah government is so they get a lot of high paying clients.

Given how even the most basic aether manipulation is seen with fear and disgust in Garlemald, I'd say the voidsent pact the Reapers have would also have been seen in the same light.

Clarification: they had to flee the Garlean Empire during the reign of the first Emperor. So I'd say they're not so much the Garlean Empire's "silent guardians" as much as the Garlean Republic's "silent guardians".

At most, they remained in that role up until the end of Garlemald's very first conquest as an Empire of Corvos. After that Stuff Happened (as described in the spoilers) and they quickly had to leave Garlemald or be wiped out. And given they weren't exactly state-sanctioned, I doubt they actually had any missions while Garlemald was first turning into an Empire pre-Corvos conquest, so I suspect the last (successful) mission of the Reapers happened before Garlemald became an Empire, and they had no more successful missions until after their exile.

Reapers were assassins, killing army leaders to help the garleans fight back against invaders. They lose and kept losing ground until they were pushed up north. Their style fell out of favor with the advent of magitek and one reaper in particular didn't like the whole conquest thing and tried to kill Emet. They aren't like dark knights who are fighting for justice in their own way using their powers to protect. Reapers kill to destabilize opposing forces so they can be more easily routed and defend their homes that way.

    Just saying that

The reason the Lemures (Reaper order) fled Garlemald is because the job trainer's grandfather made an assassination attempt on Solus (a.k.a. Emet-Selch) that failed of course, and (rightly) feared reprisal. They did this because after retaking Corvos / Locus Aemenos the Reapers saw the cult like, fascist direction Solus was taking and wanted to stop it.

Reapers we're kind of an unsanctioned vigilante group formed out of desperation, but given they contract with voidsent I doubt they're well regarded in their homeland.

And lets be honest, Reapers did not exist in any kind of Garlean lore up until they decided to add them to this expansion. So there is no old material to look back on. Have to wait and see how they get fleshed out going forward.
