All these "But WoW has X and FFXIV should have X too" threads are really, really starting to get irritating.
Can people please let each game be their own, unique thing?

Ummm, FF14 is basically a clone of an earlier version of WoW.And not all things that are in WoW would be bad for FF14.
But the storywriters should not copy the story of WoW expansions.
Cheers
There's a difference between taking inspiration from (Which yes, 2.0 took inspiration from what was current in WoW *at the time*), and blatantly carbon copying. In no way is the current game a clone of an earlier version of WoW. Just like every other argument I've seen on this, because of YoshiP stating they took design elements from early WoW during 2.0's development because at the time *the entire MMO landscape was changing DUE to WoW's effect on the genre*, you're comparing Apples to Oranges.
We don't need an expansion centered around the afterlife. Why would that even be a thing for the current state of FFXIV, when we have so much of the planet left to visit, let alone the other Shards that still exist.
Everyone's free to think what they want, have what opinion they want, but when you break everything down to the base, FFXIV =/= WoW. XIV garnered the playerbase it did because what it offered, and continues to offer, attracted people to it.
The only difference between ARR and the later expansions is that the story got much better and the zones are bigger. Gameplay systems are still exactly the same like it was back in 2013. So yes, the current game is still a clone of 2011 WoW.There's a difference between taking inspiration from (Which yes, 2.0 took inspiration from what was current in WoW *at the time*), and blatantly carbon copying. The core gameplay is almost still the same like it was in WoW WotLK and Cataclysm.I played WoW WotLK in the past.
There are some differences like switching classes and no talent trees in FF14 or FF14 has many loading screens and WoW WoTLK had very few. But this are small nuances.
And some improvements like lower server tick etc. would be also very nice for FF14. That is a point i really hate in FF14. Yesterday in Pandemonium i have wasted many cooldowns on dead players.
Cheers
Part of me wishes he never said that, because then we wouldn't be having these arguments as often. There's a difference between taking inspiration from (Which yes, 2.0 took inspiration from what was current in WoW *at the time*), and blatantly carbon copying. yeah, except for the fact that FFxiv got better
you can walk away from FFxiv for 6 months and come back and pick it back up. WoW became a job you need to go to 7 days a week or you are behind. The WoW that was the inspiration for Yoshi and team is dead. it died years ago. the gulf between the two is a reflection of the disparity between the WoW that was.... and what it has become
Not quite, it was, as of right now FF14 is it's own beast. Throughout Heavensward, even the combat was similar to WoW's.
