The menacing aura of every Lalafell.
Ah yes, Umbralands!
Spoiler for endwalker but...Since Naoki Yoshida's favorite game is WoW and FFXIV's gameplay systems is based much on the past WoW systems, it makes sense for square enix to follow in the footsteps of WoW and make the next expansion in the afterlife. Just don't make covenant and borrowed power systems. Keeping the current system with an afterlife setting will be a match made in heaven. What do you guys think?
.we do go to the afterlife in one of the dungeons in Endwalker. On the way to talk to Hydaelyn you go through the aetherial sea
Also there isn't really much of an afterlife in FF14. People chill in the aetherial sea for a bit and then reincarnate.

No. I don't care to commune with, talk to, fight, or otherwise interact with dead people and beasts. I never liked WoW's Shadowlands, thought the whole covenant system, the Kyrian stripping souls of their memories, blah blah blah, was just too contrived and nonsensical, in relation to the game's previous story arcs. I truly don't want to see FFXIV take the same path, at all.
Man they don't even try anymore. This used to be art...

yeah, except for the fact that FFxiv got better
you can walk away from FFxiv for 6 months and come back and pick it back up. WoW became a job you need to go to 7 days a week or you are behind. The WoW that was the inspiration for Yoshi and team is dead. it died years ago. the gulf between the two is a reflection of the disparity between the WoW that was.... and what it has become

I played WoW since the original classic and that statement has never been true.
There are some surface similarities. But it's like saying Football is basically a clone of Cricket. I mean they both take place on a field and have organized teams so yeah - 100% identical.

I'm with those who say no to this idea.
I really think it's a space best left unexplored in games and fantasy, and feel WoW was made much lesser for going there. Not only because so dramatically failed in the execution, but also in the choice to begin with.
