I'd much rather explore the world and learn more about its peoples, cultures, and troubles.. not hang out with the dead.

"I am Velius, the devil" - Velius, FFT
No we don't, another MMO tried that and it was one of the worst things I ever played, the story sucked and the gameplay sucked. I really don't think the devs here hate their players the way the other mmo does, so I never see it happening.
Physically visit the world of the dead and interact with people who already passes away? No thanks, cuz it will make their death feels cheap and you will no longer consider other characters' death as something to feel sad about, cuz you know they will just "live" somewhere.
However, dealing with people who died but refuse to pass on is a different thing. I'm not talking about undead stuffs. I mean the Unsent in FF10. Doing side-stories regarding sending the Unsent away with the aid of a staff-dancing kimono priestess would be a great reference to FF10.
Eh, hard pass.
Afterlife is one of those concepts which should be defined from the very beginning (with expansion in mind), abiding to the rules. Otherwise it will lead to gigantic plot holes in previous lore.
Dynamis is already a somewhat questionable concept.
Another day. Another troll.
We've already seen and explored the afterlife. It's not exactly a place conducive to much more than a dungeon or raid.
I'm not a Wow player. Can someone fill me in on afterlife?
Not quite, it was, as of right now FF14 is it's own beast. Throughout Heavensward, even the combat was similar to WoW's.

The afterlife in WoW is quite "fun", based on your personality you are bound for an eternity of servitude, if you were naughty in life but the arbiter deems you redeemable, you go to Revendreath to cleanse you of your sins through torture and anima extraction, eventually you are the one doing the torture and extracting anima. If you lived for War you go to Maldraxxus, where you will look like an undead and fight and train for the rest of eternity. If you enjoy nature way too much you would go Ardenweald and become a furry. If you were altruistic, lived honorably and selflessly sacrificed yourself for others, you go to Bastion where you will blindly follow orders like a good puppy soldier regardless of morality, as well as getting brainwashed and losing all your memories from life.
Also, the big bad guy, the Jailer, wants to break the cycle of life and death, we don't really know what that means aside from the devs telling us he is the enemy because that consists of unmaking reality.
There are countless others Afterlifes, but those are the only ones we know aside from one extra where scholars go to where they keep studying in the afterlife.

There is some foreshadowing regarding the Lifestream potentially being the source of another world-threatening disaster in one of the Studium quests, but I don't think it's likely to end up being the entire setting for an expansion.
I could see being the site of a zone down the line, though, as it remains one of the world's biggest mysteries.
