    monk vs garuda

    used monk in a garuda pt last night instead of blm. dd was great and nonstop. only thing is is that debuffs dont land. if they did it would make this fight more controlled. anyways, just been figuring out new ways to defeat garuda. any ideas, suggestion, and info is greatly welcomed and appreciated.

    Yeah the DD was pretty great last night, but I mean it's a Final Fantasy game, it's almost expected that all bosses are highly resistant/immune to status effects. Either that or they have one key weakness, but of course if that were the case in an MMO then people would build parties around that and only use that strategy. Oh wait.

    since mobs gain resist to debuffs now i think they should allow debuffs to land on primals now.

    The debuffs probably do land, just run out too fast. From what I've saw on mini-Garuda (have yet to go into hard mode), Garuda doesn't move as chaotically as Moogles, so our range isn't a problem. And we take less damage if we happen to land on the wrong side of Garuda's attacks. BLMs don't really have an advantage there since the attack hits no matter how far away you are and it's faster to change sides if you're close to her. IDK if the BLMs I was were not giving their best, but I had to slow down a few times because I just kept stealing hate from the WAR.

    I do think there will be other setups after her Aerial Blast exploit is patched. (Which should be... today?)

    if you wanna test landing debuffs, use a bard. Geared right they will have the highest piety which will be the best for landing a debuff. If theirs dont land then dont count on anyone else's landing either.

    (unless of course the mob being tested has high resist to a particular debuff being used in testing)

    Garuda is a fickle mistress and will turn on a dime at the slightest movement of the tank ;p

    And again, this is overemphasized. That's like arguing BLMs will run out of MP and will have to rest, even with convert, so they are useless toward the end of the fight.

    Even should I miss one skill, I have 2 other combos to fall back upon, and if those are on cooldown, you still have 2 AA boost skills (one being 15 min cd) + invigorate to get your TP to 3k pretty fast and still deal damage.

    As I already said, her movement is nowhere near as chaotic as moogles, which makes it even easier.

    I wasnt emphasizing that you shouldn't take a monk, I'm all for it. You stated you havent done big garuda and it seemed like she didnt move around as much as moogles (would seem that way when the fight lasts a fraction of the time as the big one). I was simply informing you she does move a lot because the tank is moving a lot since you where uninformed. That IMO still isnt a reason not to take monk, monk is fine so stop being so defensive.

    You should actually be doing hard mode so your opinions reflect what everyone else is talking about. Your talking about easy mode and everyone else is talking about hard mode, two really different things. It's really gonna get confusing when your discussing strat on two different fights.
