The benefit for FFXIV being story driven game is Final Fantasy series has always been story driven. Most want play for the story and the content it offers. They're not going to change a new expansion around to suit a minority of those that are just in it for the dungeon content. You will just have to skip the dialogue for Endwalker msq or quit the game entirely if it bothers you that much. If yours friends are really friends they will be there to congratulate you when you finish.

Final Fantasy has always been a franchise invested in telling grand and immersive stories. It's like their trademark. If the story didn't matter, then it wouldn't be a Final Fantasy.

This is their chosen formula and it seems to be working, because Final Fantasy XIV is the most popular MMORPG out right now.

I did 5.0 to 5.55 by skipping everything and it still took me several days of monotonous grind to get through it. Is Endwalker faster than that?

Yes. Remember that right now, all Endwalker has is 6.0.

6.0 is longer than 5.0 was, true, but you're describing doing 5.0 and then the following two years of MSQ content. 5.0 ended with the trial where you fought Hades; everything after that was in the later story patches we got in the two (and a half) years between the launch of Shadowbringers and the Endwalker launch this month.

Now, if you were trying to binge all of 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, and 6.55 MSQ two years from now because 7.0 was about to land, you'd potentially be talking about something the same (or, potentially, greater) quantity of quests to get through. But we won't even get 6.1 until spring 2022.

I figured they were trying to skip the story on an alt to play with friends on a different data center. If they mean to skip Endwalker then yeah, no, that's not a thing nor will it be a thing. It's not even that big of a time investment if you just skip the cutscenes.

If your "Friends" aren't helping you with your story progression, I don't think they have the time to be playing with you even if you finished the MSQ.

Buy a story skip and job boost and skip all cutscenes in latest MSQ and you'll get there before you know it. You can make a second character to play through the full MSQ if you want to later. You can also do New Game+ on your main.

Your friends can help you progress through the MSQ and do all of the story duties. If they REALLY wanted to help they could ferry you around on their flying mounts, I've seen some of my friends do this for others in our group.

Let's be real - if they aren't willing to help you progress through the MSQ, you may want to sit back and question what kind of friends you have??

I started an entire Discord community because I love helping my friends progress thru the MSQ. It was a perfect excuse for me to level up all my non-main jobs to max, whereas otherwise I would never have even touched most of the jobs in the game. Plus it's not like you get nothing for doing that old content, you get experience, tomestones, Wondrous Tails progress, etc etc.

I want to have a good time when I get home from work and not be stuck running from point A to B for days completely alone because I have to earn the ability to not be alone in a multi-player game.

There's no real need to spend a days of time alone. The first dungeon is at 81, and you can get to 81 from running levelling and alliance with your friends. Skipping through the cutscenes you'd only need to spend around a couple minutes running from A to B at max. You wont be able to access all the content at once since progression is part of the RPG design mentality, but it's genuinely super speedy to jump through if you skip cutscenes.
