    FFXIV is so teamwork-averse that it's parading around in the skin of a trinity game and is all the poorer for it. It's shucked off the philosophy of roles-based teamwork in so many ways it'd honestly be a better designed game if they finished the job and found a different paradigm to run with; pretending that different roles bring different things to the table isn't fooling anyone when you have DPS, DPS with more defense, and DPS with a horrible rotation that can counter the occasional mechanical screwups more frequently.

    I'm a former WHM main, that glass has been draining since Heavensward dude. I played a class with a ton of potential for interesting design and it's been outright stated several times by this game's director that it's been purposefully squandered down into a Forum Princess Healer's Glare spamming snoretastic dreamboat class for three expansions now. I'm a glass half DPS player now, because healing is the worst designed I've ever seen in an RPG.

    If Square could stop time and redesign the game now we'd likely see an MMO without the trinity that focused on DPS and the mechanics dance. And there would be some ultra-easy DPS to take the place of today's healers.

    SE are the only ones explicitly happy with this ‘status quo’. It benefits no players whatsoever lol. Healers who want to heal/support don’t get what they want, healers who want to dps don’t get what they want, nobody gets anything except pure, unadulterated balance . Well, what SE calls balance

    Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
    Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
    Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

    If healerless runs can pick up in awareness and popularity, especially if we can start seeing the occasional PF group role-restricting for these specific comps, then it's entirely possible that we can see some kind of reaction to address the issue. That said, the most likely outcome will be that sustain will get gutted from non-healers rather than make it not enough to carry the entire party.
