Putting aside the simple fact that someone does not need to be a published author in order to comment on the various elements within a story...many of us actually do write in our spare time, be it through role-play or penning novels.

I rather suspect some people would be quite surprised as to who plays this game!

As for avoiding some of the more common tropes? That isn't particularly difficult - though sadly embracing the 'expected' is the easiest route to take and so many authors do not aspire to be overly bold or have their hands tied by meddling influences. Including, of course, the many people who threaten and stamp their feet at the idea of even slight harm coming to their 'faves'.

The whole idea of "omg life is short cherish every moment" is so boring and lazy even when it's supposed to be upheld by the visuals or good writing.

Given the last two years, all that we have faced, and an uncertain future, I'd say the message was quite apt and relevant, wouldnt you say? The message that despite all we have faced, and what may yet come has been a massive trial for all of us, to send the message that there is still hope, and promises of a better tomorrow, is what we need to hear and remember?

The overall message wasn't lost on me, though Covid wasn't really something that crossed my mind. Everyone has their struggles in life, big and small. But there is always a glimmer of hope to hang on to, even when all seems lost. That's what I took from it, anyway. And it hit home pretty hard for me.
