Better raw, “guaranteed” gil: Vendor or Desynth?

As someone whose “endgame” is leveling all jobs, and intends to do so via trust dungeons, I’m about to have a lot of 70’s and 80’s dungeon green gear that won’t necessarily get used for very long if at all, and so I often wonder what to do with it all.

I only have 5m gil at the moment, so gil acquisition is still on my radar, and so that’s why I often look to vendor it all (sell to an NPC for gil), but it seems the community default for getting rid of unneeded gear seems to be desynth. Is this because most people are richer than I and so aren’t thinking about gil as much as I might, or is there something I’m missing here?

I’m sure someone will mention the MB, (for desynth components) but that’s not really guaranteed, so the difference would need to be pretty substantial to eclipse the raw gil faucet of NPC merchants, IMO.

    It depends.
A lot of the material pools for desynthing dungeon gear aren't especially valuable if saturated, but can potentially yield Clear Demi Materia 3 that sells for 5,000 pure.
It's honestly kind of common from experience, so in that case desynth wins out.

For gear that sells for less than 1 k I'd say desynth whenever possible, but it may he worth it to just sell the expensive gear directly for the convenience.

Ypu can alsoturn in most dungeon gear to your respective Grand company for seals, which can uselful for ventures, glamour prisms or even the jew drop boxes as well as FC credits.

If you get any furniture from ventures that sell for a pittance on the MB please do consider desynthing them as well for more potential demimateria as well.

You may want to consider hoarding ventures if you retainers can't level up to 90, as venture coffers can only be obtained from quick ventures if the respective retainers are at the current level cap.

I normally check the MB price for the sellable items I get and if they're reliably selling for 3x or more the vendor price I'll list them. HOWEVER; if people have the same item listed for less than vendor price (a surprisingly common occurrence) I'll just vendor or desynth it. Don't forget about Grand Company Expert Deliveries. You can make decent Gil by turning in dungeon drops for Ventures and sell the more valuable items or desynth materials. Once you get enough ventures, you can get in a Quick Venture loop that's mostly self-sustaining with some addition of dungeon drops.

An alternate to the 3x rule is setting a minimum MB value. Let's say yours is 1000 gil. As long as the sale history shows the item reliably selling for at least 1000 gil then you put it on the MB. If it doesn't, desynth or trade it in for GC seals/ventures. If the item doesn't sell in a week and/or if the going price drops below 1000 gil, take it off and desynth/trade it.

I've found these two ways to work well. Will they give you huge amounts of gil quickly? Not unless you happen to get lucky and get a big ticket item back from a venture. However, it's consistent income with little effort and not having to watch the MB all the time. Throw your items on the MB and if they don't sell by a particular day, I normally go with Sunday since it's the end of the weekend, pull them off and dispose of them. The exception to this are big ticket items, for me that's 10K and above for a single item. Those items are worth enough to leave up on the MB for another week or two since the payoff for the use of the slot is worth it to me. Then again, I have a lot of retainers so 20 items taking up space for weeks or months (for really valuable stuff) is worth it to me.

    Hope this helps
