The only thing I've taken away from time travel plots in media overall is "don't think about it too hard".

Time being a closed circle where any changes break off into alternate timelines while retaining only one "true" timeline like in XIV is probably the most sound method of incorporating the concept into a story but even that starts getting convoluted when you're dealing with multiple instances of time travel.

I do think would be interesting if one of the obligatory side stories for Endwalker perhaps explores what the fate of the unsundered world would've been in the original unaltered timeline; even if they just end up showing that the world would've indeed eventually died off had the Sundering not happened.
