-issues with graha's timeline and elpis...
-hydaelyn pretty much didnt even want to tell the ancients about hermes and his creation. thus the sundering of the worlds was partly her fault. even if she did and solved it all back then, we wouldn't even be here in eorzea. so the story cancels itself.
- odd pacing, we are playing dressup with bunnies while the world is ending at radz at han.
- they made zenos follow us for 4 years and we don't even get to hear his last words?

i am done editing this thread, i've concluded that people are just mad i'm critiquing their favorite games' story. i started in 2019, and square had a great thing rolling with shadowbringers but they just dropped the ball. im probably gonna end up quitting.

That's the neat part about time travel, you've already been back in time when you first created your character.
Why else do you think Hydaelyn chose you to be her champion if she didn't know you from before.

As well as the overall main villian of 7 years of buildup was somebodys failed science experiment. I've only been around since 2019 but i wonder what the 2014 players think.

only going to go into this aspect here but to answer your question, i personally found it perfectly fine, acceptable and at this point not even really out of the blue.
obviously we didn't know anything about meteion until halfway through this last expansion, so really late into this 7 year buildup which might feel like she came out of nowhere, that however is only superficially true. while meteion in particular could have been explained away by pretty much anything else that doesn't make her any worse than anything else.

what i mean by that is the following. originally we had the ascians which prayed to zodiark. from the very beginning we never knew why that is, what made zodiark so special. this however was answered to us in shadowbringers, in a manner that specified right away that zodiark in fact was the response to something else, which turned out to be meteion. alltogether that meant that this 7 year buildup began with us knowing nothing, slowly working towards what we thought was the top (zodiark) and than being told 2 years in advance of actually defeating zodiark that there was in fact something else, which also answered the "why zodiark at all" question. therefore i'd say meteion didn't come out of nowhere, even if we only had half an expansion worth of knowing her, and making her "just" a failed experiment i would say actually adds an interesting layer to her character. she was bad enough to make the ascians sacrifice 3/4 of their people, yet she wasn't some ultimate evil but more misguided and the result of happenstance, i'll actually take this over some generic ancient evil 10 times out of 10.

Meteion being The Big Bad may have always been the thing per current lore, but we need to keep in mind *nobody except Venat/Hydaelyn knew of her existence*. The Unsundered Trio weren't trying to bring about Meteion's Final Days, they were trying to accomplish multiple Rejoinings to get Daddy Zodiark out of jail.

If you want to really blow your mind, Venat knew to be the primal Hydaelyn since pre-1.0 times

To answer your musing, having played since 2014 I think Meteion and Hydaelyn's origin stories are a good retcon-resolution to a story started back when they were just trying to repair the game. The whole of EW is rushed, but I give them slack since tying up that much story in a single expansion is nuts. I'm not sure how else they could have explained The Sound and/or origin of The Final Days so Meteion's as good an option as any to me.

euhm, i agree the stort feels a bit rushed but if you skip half and call introducing new characters filler quests then i am not surprised you feel that the story is very rushed. Take your time to enjoy the quests i would say

Arrive in thavnair and do A LITTLE BIT more filler stuff with the elephant people until Nidhana gets trapped by elidibus and placed into the tower!

fandanial is the one who trapped everyone inside the towers, elidibus was currently locked away inside white auracite on the 1st when all of this was goin down

honestly I was a little disappoint with the main story line It was hardly an end of the world scene, we only went in TWO of the ziggurats, zodiark showed up way early to see. Zenos really did nothing at all expect for help us at the final (the final scene was great) but way to little for our best friend.

Amon Really did nothing at all we got one fight with him and he didn't even attack at all (huge disappointment) Then the end of world ark only lasted for like 2 scenes.

It was honestly hugely disappointment in my opinion (did I like it yes) but it wasnt amazing at all it rushed and skiped over so much and hardly made you feel like it was end of the world.


The scions were like well I'm just going to disappear for 5mins at the very end and pop they are brought back. Sorry but I even find ARR better designed at the story point than endwalker

+ the msq was like only 14 hours long total tbh without cutscene time
