    Unable to Detect DirectX Device

Hi, I've recently started playing FF14 and I'm constantly having an error message about the DirectX Device pop up. I've turned all the graphic settings to their lowest possible options, checked on new drivers for my video card, and made sure I have the most recent DirectX. I've aslo tried playing in full screen and windowed mode.

At the moment the game is essentially unplayable. Does anyone have any suggestions? I played FFXI years ago and enjoyed it, I had hoped to have similar luck with FFXIV.

    Thanks

What are you doing when the error occurs? Anything that causes the game to lose focus will force this error. I've also heard of some issues with one of the Nvidia cards (GTX580 i think?) so I wonder if that's your case.

As a tech support rep will more than likely come in and ask you to provide a whole slew of information (the format is in a sticky at the top of these forums) you may as well do that now.

Are you using a laptop that has some type of NVidia Optimus drivers? You may have to go to the bios and turn off Optimus drivers (so that you're real graphics card gets to use it full throttle).

Actually... what are the specs of your computer?

Should be able to find in FFXIVConfig under System Information or if you type DXdiag.exe and check under the Display tab.

I get the error just wandering around town or in cut scenes. I haven't made it through my starting quests because of that, actually.

DXdiag.exe display results. I'm sorry for the giant batch of text. I'm not really sure what's relevant here, so I just pasted everything in the display section.

Is this one of the new iSeries CPUs with graphics embedded? I'm not too familiar with those and how they run on this game.

Have you tried switching from fullscreen to windowed (or vice versa)? Some computers don't play well with one or the other :S

Taking a really quick glance at your DirectX file upload, your machine *could* be one of them NVidia Optimus machines, but it might be something else.

Have you been able to play any other games on this computer? Were you playing FFXI on this same computer years ago or a different computer?

    Thanks!

I was able to play FFXI on this laptop with some difficulty. This laptop has an integrated video card and a discrete one. I had to disable the discrete one in order to get FFXI to play at all... it hung up on POL otherwise. I haven't tried that yet with 14.. I'll give that a shot.

Edit: Other games seem to run just fine. I've played Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, and Star Wars: The Old Republic without issue. (I've been MMO hopping lately if you can't tell)

I was able to play for about an hour without any DirectX errors after disabling my video card and using the laptop's integrated video card exclusively. It's kind of an irritating solution, but I suppose it will do for now unless anyone else has other suggestions

How is the game graphics and performance on the integrated card? I may do this temporarily until 2.0 and/or a fix comes out.
