    Lock on feature

Hi, i really wanted to give some feedback on the lock on feature, as i unfortunately can't really use it in more difficult content even though i'm suuuuch a huge fan of the immersion it gives me! i'll give some small pointers what i'd personally love and change about the current lock on feature.

    1. (and most important) being allowed to run backwards instead of backpaddling while locked on if you're in legacy mode. this will allow for adjusting for look away mechanics while locked on.

    2. Maybe add an option where you can choose to look at your opponent while as mentioned at point one, moving backwards to look away so you can use skills and auto attack while technically looking away. while you can start strafing again to look at the target in the circle strafing way you're used to with this feature

Honestly i don't have much more as this would fix the major issues i have using lock on, it feels really nice to me, it just limits my movement in a way i can't properly use it to avoid mechanics often used.

I'd hope this can maybe be adjusted sometime so more can enjoy this lovely feature!

Why not just deactivate lock on to move backwards and lock on again afterwards?

Tbh the lock on feature is long overdue and a remnant of times when you needed to look at an enemy to do autoattacks, because they were only a 90° forward and that is the reason the lock on feature locks your position fixed to the center of the enemy you are targeting.
Nowadays with 360° degree autoattacks, "auto look at target when using a skill" and also many 360° skills, lock on is past its date.

i can deactivate it yes, however when i would attack again it would re-lock (as i just auto lock on whenever i attack)
i get it's kind of past it's time, however i don't know if it means it should be neglected, for people like me atleast, it gives more immersion in a battle, which for me is very important in a game regardless of content
i also get it may be a bit unrealistic but those small adjustments would fix most issues it actually has

If it is for immersion then I suggest learning to manually lock on and off as you need instead of relying on the auto lock on. (You can change that setting in the character configurations, in the case you didn't know.)
It may take more effort but you have to got that extra step for your perfect immersion.
Mechanically Lock on just can't offer anything that isn't already in game through many many QoL patches in the past.

Just to confirm (since I don't use the lock-on and not familiar with how this part functions), do you have camera controls switched to (I think) Legacy?

Basically, is the backpedaling a result of the lock-on, or does your character always backpedal when trying to move backwards?

In Legacy mode, you will still backpedal while locked on and while Strafing.

Hm, suspected that might be the case.

Suppose the followup question would be, what is gained from lock-on that warrants its use? Can some of the benefits still be had without use of the feature?

    Lock on had 3 advantages:
    - The camera is always focused on the target, so you never lose sight of it.
    - It is easy to dance on the border between rear and flank, since you strife around the center of the locked on target.
    - You have 100% auto-attack uptime, but that is irrelevant since auto-attacks got changed to be 360° in HW instead of only frontal 180 or 90°, don't remember the specifics but they were limited to you have to look at your target to perform auto-attacks. So this no longer applies.

    And 2 disadvantages:
    - The camera is locked on your target, so you can't look around for mechanic tellings.
    - You backpaddle instead of turn and run, which slowes you to walking speed and makes it impossible to doge most point blank AoEs.

Lock on can be nice for some melee DPS and very immersive but the disadvantages are pretty heavy. Especially the Camera lock on makes it useless for many "harder" fights, beginning with Hardmode Trials and normal Raids since arena awareness is one of the key factors of many fights.
