How do we gear our retainers?

I normally craft max level gear for them , 3 gather and 3 combat but this new system has me puzzled.

The gather gear is easy, thats crafted.

But.

There IS no 90 crafted gear for combat classes, the artifact gear cant be used in multiple sets, ( I think ), and even then the accessories ( ears etc ) are from tomestones and that will take a while...i dont get it.

Why is there no 90 crafted combat gear, and if so, how do we gear our combat retainers?

Can we get multiple sets of artifact gear? That artifact gear also cant be overmelded...

In Shadowbringers we had white level combat gear, Facet, Neo ish and Exarchic ( mind you those three are the high level crafted ), but no "white level" gear for retainers ( for Endwalker would be 560 or thereabouts, older gear was 530. )

The old Exarchic at best is 520..even with the white gear gets you 560 ilevel which is a lot higher so...anyone?

( And btw yes it does matter, for hunting ventures and quick explore missions )

Has Square told us why there isnt any crafted 90 combat gear? is the artifact gear all we will have..are there more tiers to come?

Well, how patient are you?

If you can wait a few weeks, the crafted combat gear is coming. (It might even come on tuesday, I don't remember if it drops at the same time as the normal raid or savage raid).

If you can't, farm dungeon drops and throw those on your retainers. Or even EX primals, if you're so inclined.

You get your free lv 89/90 AF gear, and dungeon accessories. That's plenty enough for retainers.

Well, in shadowbringers you could just get multiple free sets of AF gear. I haven’t gotten to 90 Endwalker yet, so I can’t say that’s true here, but check into that.

I haven't gotten my battle retainers to 90 yet, but what I would try is (keep an extra weapon of the class you want to get the AF gear for and wear it yourself) put all your AF gear on a retainer, then run and see if you can get another set. If you use the bell by the Aetheryte in Sharlayan, you don't even have far to go.

I don't know if you can get multiples so long as they're in separate inventories, quite possibly. But you want to be upgrading your AF gear to Tome gear for yourself anyway. AF gear doesn't last you very long.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think this is a new thing. The basic crafting recipes go up to 1 or 2 levels below cap, then level cap items are unlocked through Master Books. I haven't got a 90 crafter yet. Are there level 90 master books yet? I think it would be Mater recipes (9)?

Makes sense to me that there would be more of an emphasis on gaining crafting gear through crafting and combat gear through combat.

That was my thought. Forgive the confusion, but thats the first time Ive seen no crafted max level gear available. New system.

Oops....yes folks you are dead right, the first set of 80 gear and weps was Ronkan, and then Facet, Neo Ish and then Exarchic from the master crafter tomes.

I put a set in my chocobo bag, grabbed a second. (This was in Shadowbringers). Since 2 of my retainers are paladins, I had to go back and grab a third set. I assume the same holds true here as the separate inventories work independently (same as treasure maps, etc).
