    GeForce 555M and Losing DirectX

I know there are a couple of threads already about newer Nvidia cards causing FFXIV to crash after a certain amount of time, but I cannot utilize the other fixes so I wish to ask for help here.

I get about 35-45 min of gameplay before FFXIV crashes with the message that it was unable to locate the DirectX device. Unlike others, this doesn't happen just once, but every time I start the game. I get to play it ~45min at a time before having to reboot FFXIV.

This particular card has no available driver downloads from the Nvidia site, so I am unable to update my driver. In other words, I am at the mercy of the time frame it takes Nvidia to make a driver update for my card, or SE to patch the game so the newer Nvidia cards stop crashing.

SE, I implore you, please patch this soon. I just recently purchased a new high end gaming PC specifically for the purpose of playing high-end graphics games my old pc was unable to. This was the game I was most looking forward to, and at the moment it is not nearly as enjoyable as it could be without the crashes.

They have stated that a greater range of hardware should be capable of playing the game come 2.0. Hopefully that will fix the issue, as it's similar to one that I experience.

    In the mean time, however...

You must be doing something wrong, because I was able to find 3 non-beta drivers for a GeForce 555M: 296.10, 295.73, and 285.62. I've made each one of the three versions listed a clickable link that should take you to the driver download page. I would try the latest driver, if that's not what you're already on. If that doesn't help, downgrade and try again.

Thanks. I tried for 30min last night doing both the "auto-detect" my driver needs button, and manually telling it I had a 555M. Both options Nvidia came back saying there was nothing for me. I appreciate the research you did, as I have heard quite a few people saying driver updates fixed the issue.

If 2.0 will be a fix, I suppose I can make it that long doing 45min spurts. It actually keeps me from playing hours on end like I did in XI. Every time the game crashes I make a note to look at the clock. Without it, time is of no value or meaning when I play. At least mine is taking 45min to crash instead of 5min or instantly like some others.

Thanks again. I will be trying this tonight.

So, updated to the newest driver and I still crash after ~45 min when full screen. Windowed I can't even make it past the character select screen.

Yikes, did you try the older drivers? Newer isn't always better when it comes to drivers. My wife runs the same setup as I do. Her drivers are newer and she has a lot more problems than I do.

Haven't had an opportunity, but planned on trying them tonight. Really hope this fixes it. Loving the game, hating dying during leve quests and story line missions thanks to blindside crashes.

    With my 335m I use 295.73
Note that some drivers just fail with my m11x because it has the switchable GPU. Some games (Like FFXI) will even use the intel chip when they load even though I had it set in the BIOS to only use my 335m. This will only happen with some drivers (285.62 for example)

Iv had luck in FFXI with...
    263.08 (The one from Dell)
    266.58
295.73 (Current driver I use cause it works for XI and XIV)

I've tried every drive update out for my vid card, upgraded it finally to a beta version. That seems to work the best, up to 3 hrs of gameplay one night without a crash.

I read about a compatibility update for directx and did it, now I crash every ~30. This is really frustrating. Is it too much to ask to be able to play the game where the crash doesn't force you to die, fail synths, lose leves?

Bumping this, still hoping for a fix. Tried everything suggested in any other NVidia loss of DirectX thread to no avail.
