Summoner Heal…did I miss something?

Physik, as well es Ressucitate, are remnants of the Arcanist Class, which splits into SMN and SCH and has parts of both kits, healing and damage.
Despite Physik being a "real" healing spell and scales with Mind it has its uses in Dungeons below level 50 when Healer and Caster share the same gear and SMN has an overburden amount of Mind available.

Yeah. I recently got into a Cutter's Cry with a super-green healer who spent most of the last two bosses dead on the floor and basically carried the run with Physick and rez.

That's also about the last dungeon where your MND is high enough (and the encounter difficulty low enough) for that to be possible.

There is one nearly microscopic value to Physick: It marginally fills the limit break gauge, so while nothing is happening, you could spam physick to gain a bit of LB charge. Is it worth the MP? Maybe not.

Once upon a time, Titan-egi was a tank. A decent one at that, and the SMN could use Physick to heal him. It had a special interaction that made it heal him for a decent amount but even back in ARR it was worthless on players except dire emergencies. But that's long gone so it's just been hanging out there. Still healing for our mind stat at level 50 since it stops gaining points then.

You're thinking of Sustain, which was a different spell to physick and gave your pet a fairly potent regen.

It doesn't. The limit break system was changed at Shadowbringers launch so that only heals cast by proper healers could affect the gauge.

The following adjustments have been made to limit breaks:

• The rate at which the limit break gauge fills when using healing actions has been reduced.
• The limit break gauge will no longer fill when non-healer jobs use healing actions.
• The rate at which the limit break gauge fills in new areas when taking damage from enemies under certain conditions has been reduced.
