PC Controller losing connection intermittently

Try running a clean boot on the machine to see if that may help (disable any programs that may be interfering with the game such as discord if applicable)
I tried most of the steps already,
the only thing I never try is to wipe out all data and clean install windows.

It won't work fyi (I already reformatted once), the problem is the game itself. I have the issue on my laptop, not my older desktop. If device manager refreshes the game will take your controls from you for 2 seconds as it polls all of the hardware changes. The only fixes are Square Enix changing their code, or the other fix which is the only other practical one, I can only allude to.

No other game has this issue, when I realized it was localized to "only" FFXIV then suddenly it became easier to narrow it down. The community has "fixed" it but SE will only copy paste scripted responses in the tech forum. They will not fix it.

this has been a problem for YEARS with controllers on XIV for PC. From 2.0 - 5.x, the controllers would continually repeat the last button pushed for about a second, as though you were rapidly pushing it. In most cases, this would cause you to run off a cliff. As of 6.0, it's the opposite. The controller stops responding for about a second then continues going.

SE doesn't seem to have any intention of fixing this. This happened on all of my computers for the past 10 years, desktop and laptop, and I replace them every 2 years. I've opened multiple tickets, done everything they asked. It's a programming issue on XIV. it's the only game it happens on.

All we can do is hope that some day before the game's service ends, that SE will fix it... but as of now, they don't seem interested.

I made a post then i found this thread lol so copy and paste my same issue that everyone is having.

I play on PC with an Xbox One Controller wireless, and all of sudden I start having a weird issue with just FFXIV. this started happening like 05/14/2022

1) every 5 sec of use my controller stop responding for 1 sec.
2) so I tested my controller with other games and have no issue at all.
3) I have rebooted my pc, the controller and reconnect the controller but that doesn't seem to have fixed the issue.
4)I've also tested with a PS4 controller and I experience the same Issue. the PS4 controller is wired in.

I'm at a lost and I have no idea what else I can try to fix the issue as its interfering with my game play and messing up my combos.

I found the solution to fix my problem. I had to restore all game files and redownload all patches, 7gb. and the problem went away. I don't know if this is a solution for other people. worth give it a try

CORRECTION: It only fixed it once T-T and when my game randomly crashed, the controller start going its thing again, so I did a restore game files and redownload patch.... just logged in this morning to find out its still doing it.

Yoshi P is too busy making XVI, fixing XI for them, and banning people for addons, to fix actual problems with FFXIV. Its popular enough where he can just forget about it now, which has been evident ever since Endwalker launch.

Which controllers specifically did you try?
Xbox Series Controller (Windows original and only wired).

When using wired method, did you disable any bluetooth options to avoid interference?

Do you have multiple controllers or other 3rd party devices hooked up the machine?

Did anything change in the computer's environment that may have contributed to the problem?
I've just changed versions of the Operational System (from Windows 10 to 11). But all drivers and system are up to date.

I have Discord installed, but i only open it occasionally. Most of the time it is not running.

This problem occours not too often for me (like once in 15 to 20 minutes, but sometimes I got a spread of freezes in sequence, like 3 to 4 times inside 1 minute). I'm having this issue since Heavensward launch or even further back. But it gets a bit worse after Endwalker's release.
I've changed cable, reconfigurated Steam Controller options and even tried to look for corrupted files on my FFXIV steam library game. Nothing seems to fix it.

Just remember: this is an old issue. But before it wasn't that much annoying like nowadays...

The only thing that solves it for a while is unpluging and pluging the controller cable again. For some good amount of minutes the problem stops. But after 2hs or so, it comes back. Maybe this info helps...

I got the same problems like the others players. My controller dies randomly and it not wireless, it 100% wired. It Square Enix coding Issue, but they wont admitted. The feedback for that is on bathroom, Sorry. For a gaming service who do not priotize properly accesibilities I will say this. Get your game up, seriously SE you guys are a joke. This is not suprising 3rd party is kicking your ass on QOL and UI for years. Atleast fix the damn controllers before 3rd party does it. Seriously, hire more programmers before the game dies of limitations.

I have this issue from time to time. It's been a longstanding issue on the FF14's part but the devs seem are insistent that it's not an issue on their end. Yet people still post about this issue time and time again years after the first users had issues. In 2016 a guy on YouTube said it's an enumeration issue, and I'm sure other tech-savvy people have other hypotheses, too.

I've been having the same issue others are claiming. You mentioning Discord is interesting. I'll test a theory, but I always have Discord on and in occasion the intermitent disconnection of the controller happens rarely, but when it does happen, it does so the entire session. Like 2 or 3 seconds of inaction. Pretty rough when I'm tanking or healing. I can get away with it as DPS, but yeah, this has clearly been an issue and should be addressed by the team and a fix should be forthcoming.

Please don't expect us to turn off our apps. Steam owners need Steam on to actually run the title. Discord doesn't use controllers. So it's confusing.

I really hope the technical team looks up this issue and deals with it quickly.
