A personal appeal to FFXIV players

    https://old.reddit.com/r/ffxivdiscus...ffxiv_players/

I would like to take the time to try give some alternative perspectives to those of you who are currently, actively, using AFK botting or other means to make sure that you stay logged in for several hours every day. This is not a call out post. I am not passing judgement upon you for taking measures to ensure you are able to play the game when you are back from work, or whatever other responsibilities you are tending to while AFK.

I just want to give some thoughts that could possibly make you think about the situation a little more.

First, I fully understand if you are doing this because you are participating in time sensitive content. Maybe you are trying to finish MSQ so you can get to farming the EX trials and tomes. Maybe you are in the process of farming right now. Maybe you are a serious DoH/DoL enthusiast and are preparing for the Savage crafting market, or making as much gil as you can right now. Maybe you're doing something else that is important to you.

Those are all understandable, justifiable reasons to take these measures. But, if those situations don't apply to you, or if you are really done right now with doing the current content that is important to you - please consider whether whatever side content you are engaging with really needs to be done right now. Can it wait until a better time? Are you reasonably able to take a break from the game, at least until the normal mode of the raid releases next week? Will you reasonably be able to take a break after getting your weekly gear from the normal mode next week?

Second, I would like to make a point to anyone who is doing this, and is actively planning to Static raid when Savage releases. Have you considered that you are very likely shooting yourself in the foot by doing this? That you are increasing the likelihood of this congestion persisting into, and directly affecting your Savage progression? Nothing you can do will help you when a member of your team disconnects during prime time.

Third, consider the fact that if you are AFKing and playing every day, you are literally getting to do so for free right now. Yes, the free time applies to everyone, including those stuck in the queues, but can you really justify doing this with the thought that if you don't, you are wasting your money?

And finally, if your reasoning for AFK botting is because of Error 2002 - please consider if this will still hold up for you if SE does in fact fix the error after Tuesday. If it actually was your main motivation to AFK bot, you should reconsider the new situation at that time.

Consider that, if any reasoning in this post makes you weigh the action of AFK botting - if you do choose to stop, you will be helping another player. Even if your lack of staying in the game makes it easier for someone else to get in who is just AFK botting, you've still reduced the number of people doing it by one. That means, at all times of max server load, you are helping another player actually play the game, who would be unable to do so otherwise.

Consider that, if you stop doing this, you will help the congestion stop sooner. Sure, not by much if it is just you. But it will still be that much sooner.

If you've made it this far into the post, I thank you for taking the time to read through it. I'm sorry if it was a waste of your time to do so.

Im sorry, I dont mean to be rude. Its just that it seems no one cares about third party programs until they interefere with their personal gameplay and it really bothers me.

The post I'm linking is slightly too long and exceeds the character limit on the forums here. I appreciate you taking the time to read the reddit link.
It's a post with good intentions, but I hate to say, if you're trying to appeal to the sympathy of someone online, a person who doesn't know you and probably lives halfway across the continent from you, you're going to be disappointed with the result. Just real talk, man.

OP, botters don't operate on reason. Although I seriously doubt there's a huge number of people afk botting, the fact that some people are (and have been for years, in addition to crafting/gathering botting) won't be stopped by anyone attempting to appeal to their better nature or w/e. They just don't care, and most people don't come to the forums anyway, so they would never see this regardless. Botters will continue to bot.
