Finish msq then do fates.
Msq will get you to 90 and then you can fly around on alts. First week was your best chance to catch in ground mode, but your almost 2 weeks in now

I'm not super far into endwalker yet (lvl 82). I've been trying to get the 6 gold ratings from fates for faster mount speed. However, its nearly impossible to do this. Every fate that spawns has a legion of players fly in within 30 seconds and finish it in another 45 seconds. Basically, unless a fate spawns very close to me and I immediately notice, I won't be able to participate.
Are other people having these problems?
If a FATE complete too fast, it means it has not been scaled up yet. When a FATE is completed by a large number of people, the next FATE spawn will be scaled accordingly, making monsters tougher/require more kills.
If you see a zerg ball of FATE farmers in a kill-a-number of monsters, try to tag as many monsters as possible with your AoE (don't need to kill them). If it is an item gathering, ignore monsters and just pick up stuffs, or tag some newly-spawn ones and throw them into the zerg ball. If it is a boss FATE, you can still have a chance for Gold rating as long as they are 50% of HP. Playing a tank with threat stance on will make it easier to get Gold Rating during FATE boss, but not a must-have.

Yeah but the scaling does not properly account for AoEs. For kill enemies fates at least it makes more enemies spawn at once. If three players can kill three enemies in half a minute, six players can kill six enemies in 15 seconds because each player can hit all enemies with their AoEs. Collect items and defend targets fates might suffer from the same problem, but I'm not 100% sure. Boss fate is the type where the scaling works best, and escort fates are largely unaffected since the rate of progress is dictated mostly by the movement speed of the escorted NPC.
Nevertheless, I have managed to get my six golds on each of the first three areas without flying. It took some patience, strategizing about fate spawns and a bit of luck. Labyrinthos was the most annoying because even the first area is divided in two levels, making distances deceptively long. If there's more than one fate up and you can work out which the train is at, go for the other one. That gives you a headstart for getting there in time. You could also try to camp a region with several possible fates nearby, so you're close to them when they pop. This option can be boring though. Or you could just go about other business like side quests or gathering and seize the opportunity if a fate pops near you. Don't forget to use aetherytes; the cost of teleporting within a zone is rather negligible.

To the OP: Check and see if there is a FATE party in the zone. There's a non zero chance that if you join the party, someone in the group will have a 2 seater mount for you to grab a ride with and fly to the fates with the rest of the group.

May help gather some currents as well. Hit aether compass like crack.
It has no cd now!
Blink away!

You can't unlock flight for two of the zones until much later in the story. You could fly there too though? You aren't slower in the air. Unlocking flight is unrelated to ranking up your Shared FATE for the area.
Also you can join a party, people host Shared FATE farm parties in party finder all the time. It's a bit easier when you're with a group.
I really never pay attention to travel speeds until I'm done with the MSQ and have flying unlocked on every zone, then I just go back and get my rank 3s. It negates the purpose of faster land speed, but it's the only avenue I found viable, specially considering how long it takes to traverse the terrain on some of these new zones.
You could always ask if anyone doing the Fates would be willing to group up and escort you around in their car. Several players are likely to have one and it would not surprise me if there are at least a few people willing to help out.

Why would you do fate when you don't have fly yet? The game is clearly designed for Fate to be used after you finish the story and start lvling your alt class.I'm not super far into endwalker yet (lvl 82). - Some zones (like Labythros) is clearly not designed to quickly moved around on foot, also even if the zones are continuous, they are all massive.
- Fate give pitiful amount of EXP without the amoury bonus, which you won't have on your first class.
- The MSQ give enough EXP to get your job to 80 without ever doing a single FATE.
All of this combine means if you're trying to do FATE on your first class ... you are playing it ... the way it's not meant to be. I avoided saying you're playing it's wrong since it your game, play however you like. But do note the fact you would be playing against the design, so inconvenience should not come as a surprise.
The MSQ by itself is not enough to level you to 90 unless maybe you have a lot of rested XP. There were a few levels where I had to finish leveling up with side quests so I could continue the MSQ. Yoshi-P mentioned that in one of his messages on the Lodestone. Why would you do fate when you don't have fly yet?
