Has FFXIV always had a "color banding" issue or is just more noticeable on PS5?

So, please bear with me for a moment. I would like to preface this post that I suffer from OCD and what most people will not notice, I will notice. Also, sometimes I go a long time not noticing something, then I see it and I can't stop seeing it.

That being said...has FFXIV always had a color banding issue (where you can see the line color gradients in the sky and in certain lighting situations with bands curving on the sides during sunny and night time overcast scenes) or is it just more noticeable on PS5 in the 4K mode?

I could of sworn I never noticed it playing on PS4 Pro but maybe the leap to PS5 and playing it in the 4K mode is making it more noticeable. However, now that I see it I can't unsee it. Is this just due to the game being built on older hardware?

Again, this seems to only really happen in outdoor lighting scenarios, but is a bit distracting nonetheless now that I've noticed it.

Sorry, this may seem like so minor to some people but it really triggered my OCD this week.

Sounds like the kind of issue that HDR would bring out. If the contrast is within a certain upper and lower bound, the human eye sees a smooth gradiant, but if your TV is raising the contrast boundaries for HDR, it might cause the gradient to appear more abrupt.

(Any of my screenshots of 1.0 don't show it but that was an entirely different engine.)

I've had this problem ever since I can remember, but Idk if it's my monitor or xiv that's causing it.
I'm not really familiar with this kind of problem :x

I have had this problem since I started playing and just assumed everyone did. I assumed it was part of the game. I have it on PC on a 1440p NON-HDR monitor and PS5 4k with HDR.

So colour banding is almost always on a display, not a device, level. When I played FF XIV on my PS4/5 while connected to my TV, no colour banding whatsoever. When I play FF XIV on my monitor, yup, colour banding. This is a display level problem, and your display just doesn't handle colour banding well.

I had this issue on a 4k Display, yet my Samsung G7, nor G9 have the issue with the same game. So I'm going to guess it's your display, not the game.

I guess that will teach me to purchase a top of the line Samsung 4K Neo QLED. I thought I would end up with a better image overall from gaming but FFXIV with HDR off is a color banding nightmare

Is it only happening with the "Faux HDR" enabled, or with it off?

Also, I've noticed if you don't have a proper Cable for HDMI 2.1, the data gets limited as well between two devices, for Ps5 at least. Or if the display doesn't support 2.1 fully. Both my monitors support Display Port, so no bandwidth issues there.
