Response to Congestion (as of Dec. 15)

Heh, it made me re-sub. Only gonna do month-to-month for awhile and probably only get on in the mornings to do mini cactpot and maybe some gathering when I have slow spots with work, but that kind of direct and honest communication is such a balm in these times.

My thoughts:


->It's heartening to see that they have identified the root cause of error 2002. It will be fixed in the new year, and it will be gone forever. Great.
->The additional game time compensation is warranted. Great.
->The transparency in a road map is good, but it's still frustrating that S-E is so frugal that they didn't spend the funds required to expand their servers in the months before EW's launch. We're all paying the price for that now.
->The tone-deaf response to raid progression in NA / EU. Even if you're not in the World First race, trying to progress in the new raid for all groups in NA / EU is going to be beyond frustrating. It's clear that two things will happen: 1) static raids will never start on time because of the queues and 2) a single disconnect will mean calling raid for the night. The fact that Yoshi does not see this as a "major issue" is disheartening.

Plans for OCE started before that are were still pushed back due to product shortages. Plans for a more immediate solution (they apparently had plans for some of this for 7.0 or post 7.0) to the rest of the data centers started the moment the un predictable influx of players came. Until that point, what they had was sufficient to handle the slow and rather predictable growth of players. You cannot expect a company to predict the unpredictable and purchase outside of need or planned upgrade.

Let's agree 7.0 was the plan. You know how many years of growth that is? Let us not include WoW. The game has shown growth after the player dip in stormblood. Next let us say the JPN world numbers are the acceptable stable amount of players per world since they have never reduced the amount of worlds there. Is EU/NA anywhere close to that per world pre WoW? No one is saying that they should have ordered enough for new data centres. They should have had a new world or two going live.



Also unless the server team are not Japanese, they have lied about travel if OCE is in Australia. Both countries for most of the year have allowed travel for business needs. Again that was never gong to make a real dent in NA/EU anyways. SE is/was being cheap as they are in the money making business. They were waiting half a decade (7.0) to see how bad players experience would be before spending money. This isn't about WoW or chip shortage. It is about the player base supporting greed over QoL.

Sorry i choose to not get spoonfed by the devs. Fact of the matter is they knew it was an issue, they decided to continue profiting off of it until enough people complained. It’s scummy. Even on the most active servers in NA, after the initial rush in SHB, longest queue I saw before the WoW influx was 100 and never lasted very long. The servers were still sufficient for the growth they were seeing. That is the point, they had plans based on the slow steady growth pre WoW exodus. OCE data center would alleviate some, giving more time. No WoW exodus means this expansion launch would have been no where near as bad as it is now. OCE issue is largely hardware related, not travel related at this point.

Yeah, nobody is obligated to treat members of the development team like they're deities to be worshipped. At the end of the day, it's a video game created by a business and designed to make money. Even if players get enjoyment out of it, I don't think it's healthy to imply that people are wrong or bad for maintaining a standard customer and business relationship with the company.

Poor guy, it's ok to appreciate the people that working for the game that you love/hate. You don't have to do tongue lashing all the time like they're your work horses.
The only fact here is you probably aren't used to appreciate something even with it's flaw.

Even with 5 jobs at level 90 and enjoyed the game, you still cannot be satisfied.

If they just got more servers from the magical server land, it would've appeased you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Or, maybe if they bought that 1 server you found on google this wouldn't of been a problem. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's not like they were saying this was going to be an issue for the last 6 months and you decided to ignore it. Then became angry and irrational when what was warned came to pass. But then again that's a them problem, not a you problem for being ignorant. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And just fyi from an earlier ignorant post you made earlier. Adding new servers through the whole process takes around 6 months plus from ordering to implementation, and that's when everything is on hand and ready to go from all sides. Right now I wouldn't be surprised if the server congestion situation being fixed for NA/EU through new servers won't take almost a year maybe 1 1/2 years. Of course there is the OCE that's been held up which will alleviate some congestion but honestly not a ton. Maybe 5% at best.

Anyways, the chip shortage has been known since 2019 and only steadily gotten worse. So you saying they should have known about the problems now (expansion AND wow exodus AND ffxiv popularity explosion) and preplanned for all of this from like late 2018? Do you hear how that sounds?

Lastly, and no I'm not happy about these problems either. I don't like being in queue for 3 hours dealing with errors just like the rest of everyone. But I'm not going to bitch and moan about problems. I'll bitch and moan about no solutions. And right now Im seeing a good faith effort to find solutions. Now if they are able to follow through with everything is another question for another time.

What do you want then?
Most of your jobs are 80 and you already have few jobs that is 90.
For someone who jointed in Feb 2021 have more post count than me who registered in 2016 and still able to lvl so many jobs.
That tells me you are not someone that is 9 to 5 and have plenty time to play and also to be waste on this forum.
I doubt congestion will have much impact on you?

Yoshi-P is awesome. He saved this game and has made it arguably one of the greatest come back stories in gaming history.

Full stop.

That doesn’t mean that he should be deified and worshiped as this benevolent saint. And in seeing the man over the last 8 years I really don’t think he would want people treating him this way either.
