A Thank You to Square Enix and the FFXIV Community

I'll cut to the chase on this one but thank you to Square Enix and the FFXIV Community for this wonderful game that I played for the first time this year.

Like many people that have started playing FFXIV during the course of 2021, I was a former World of Warcraft player of over 10 years that simply had enough with the decline of not only a product but the company behind it. While I look back fondly on the fun times playing the game and all the great people I met along the way, I simply couldn't play it.

I'll admit, I hadn't heard of FFXIV prior to 2021 as more than just a few passing mentions from someone I knew that played it. That's somewhat surprising given how popular the game was beforehand but it is what it is.

It also took me two bites of the cherry to actually enjoy the game. I quit within the first hour back in February before returning in April to try again. Trying again was the right decision as once I got past the somewhat slow and tedious first hour, I didn't look back.

It's been a good year and I've had a ton of fun playing FFXIV. The entire MSQ including Endwalker was phenomenal and the variety of end game content has kept me entertained for months now. Prior to Endwalker releasing, I really enjoyed doing all the Alliance raids and spending time in Bozja and Zadnor working on a resistance weapon that I proudly keep in my inventory because she glows.

I appreciate how welcoming and fun the community has been overall. It's not without it's own toxicity, IMHO, but it shows itself in different ways than WoW does. Not flaming on either camp here, but they exist in all games, not just WoW and FFXIV. Thanks to all the healers and DPS that put up with my shenanigans as Warrior or Paladin tank (I rolled Paladin after completing ShB MSQ).

So once again, thank you for all the fun moments and interactions I've had in FFXIV this year. I look forward to the content and expansions ahead with all the fun trials and raids that we'll do along the way. I also look forward to trying to get a house in Ishgard via the raffle system, maybe RNG be on my side.

One of the things I like best about FF is nothing feels forced. If I want to do it I can and if not I don't fall behind where I think I should be. I'm actually having fun running dungeons again. I'm still learning but it's fun. I've ran into a lot of helpful people that have explained, in a nice way, what I am doing wrong and how to get it right. And that alone means everything to me.

Sure I have run in to some not so friendly people but they are in all walks of life and is expected. I wish I changed games years ago. Can only think of one thing I have ran it to that I don't like and that is the solo duties where I play as another character, but it's no where close to enough to ruin my fun.

Thanks to all the wonderful people that have helped me and make my time here a blast.

I agree! This is the best MMO I've ever played and I'm grateful to the community and dev team for making it what it is. Endwalker was amazing and will always have a place in my fond memories after Heavensward. .

The helpful crafters that have been making items that required master recipes in order for me to finish DoH job quests have been my savour recently, may they be blessed with only the best gameplay. Should've done them while levelling but I got into Ishgardian Restoration a bit too much and got into the mid-70s in a few weeks running up to early access. Now it's the final stage, so to speak, to 90 and my DoH/DoL jobs are capped.

I hope 2022 is the year that I get to join the player house owning club, preferably with a small plot in Ishgard.

Small comparison after only one month of playing FFXIV and ESO from beta...

Healer, tank dead on boss fight:
-ESO: you (insert at least 5 random insults) cant even heal single target!
-FFXIV: do not worry, it is on him to use mitigations and proper skills, lets try again

Healer, DPS dead as usual because standing in stupid is fun and sexy:
-ESO: you (insert just 2 or 3 random insults as we have more then one DPS) go L2P!
-FFXIV: sorry mate should move out from crap, my bad

DPS,it is going slow, adds are not killed in time etc etc
-ESO: you (insert at least 10 random insults ending with threats about raping my cat) go train on practice dummy, or better quit the game, low DPS only 20k, my dog can do 50k!
-FFXIV: stuff is dying even if slow, what are you worried about? Lets go.

Thank you all guys, veterans and sprouts alike for making it possible for me to enjoy playing DPS for first time in a really long time, and not feeling stressed as hell when playing healer.
