Final Fantasy 14 is shutting my PC Completely Off

Every since the release of early access, I have had consistent issues with my computer just up and shutting off. No BSOD, nothing. Just up and turns off. Here is a list of things we have done. Mind you, I never had issues like this before. I was able to play FF14 at MAX settings with 0 issues, now, I have it set to standard graphics settings and its still having issues. It turns off even when FF14 is the ONLY program running. This most recent time, my GPU temp was 61 degrees C and my CPU was 65-70 degrees C.

    1. Dusted out the computer
    2. Replaced thermal paste.
    3. added an additional fan
    4. replaced thermal paste INSIDE the GPU(yea, i didn't even know that was a thing...but it is...)
    5. I have validated ALL my drivers and windows files to make sure nothing was corrupted.
    6. Completely reinstalled windows(btw the cloud server for uploading your local character files doesn't work, so don't do it. Use the good ol fassioned way!)
7 replaced a fan that was under performing...

Let me tell you, between Lobby server errors and my PC turning off after sitting in the log in queues, I really have lost a lot of interest in this expansion. I am so beyond frustrated. And any help would be really appreciated.

    Here is my computer info:
    CPU: Ryzan 5 1600
    GPU: Nvidia Gforce GTX 1070
    PSU: EVGA 650 GQ

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Could you provide a system report? apply. Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

    Endwalker destroyed my motherboard.

Very likely it was a BIOS or Motherboard hardware/sensor issue; by were either the BIOS "TEMP Overheat Protection" setting was set too low, such as at 70c, or the sensor hardware was miss-reporting the actual CPU Package Temperature.... probably the latter if the MB has failed.
T-Max for your CPU is 95c and for the PC to "turn off" is normally a CPU temperature issue and/or a PSU issue.... Software issues don't do that sort of shut down.
As your MB has croaked, it was likely a flaw in the MB resulting in the CPU temp to be miss-reported (CPU exceeded 95c, but the MB only saw 70c) or such.... it's not uncommon to get a bad apple sometimes for a MB.
If it was a PSU issue, assuming you didn't replace it when replacing the dead MB, the issue would persist. A failing PSU can also "turn off" suddenly and depending on how it is failing, it can also kill other hardware in the PC.

The game by itself can't kill a motherboard.

i would look through event viewer for any relevant logs to pin point the possible cause of the shut down but i would have to agree with others, a game wont simply cause a system shut off like this so it is looking likely that its a possible hardware issue of some kind.

Endwalker won't destroy your computer, but incorrect system parameters can and it sounds to me that your power supply was showing signs of failure which would have eventually resulted in your computer no longer working. It doesn't mean your motherboard fried, it just means your power supply was dying and is now dead. A dying power supply could sometimes send unexpected surges resulting in... well, let's just say bad news for hardware components.

I recommend going to amazon and buying a good 700w+ power supply. They're pretty cheap and it'll likely fix everything.

Note: I'm not your technician, everything is up to you but it's advice you can take with a grain of salt. I'm not responsible with whatever you decide to do.

Like mentioned above, FFXIV takes low to medium amount of resources depending on your settings. It's most likely due to:
    • Motherboard BIOS battery
    • Motherboard itself
    • Overheating (unlikely since you already reported normal ranges)
    • PSU strain due to it dying (this one is common with computers suddenly shutting down)

As for memory that shuts down the computer down is rare. Memory issues usually BSOD or sudden reboots. You can try running a stress test to see if it causes a shut down. Two good softwares:
Prime95 (Free - Tests mostly CPU/memory but will give you load results)
3dmark (Partially free - You don't have to purchase the full version. These tests is more about the GPU)

another possible thing to look at, related to what the poster above me said which reminded me of a very weird issue i once had. have you at any point opened your pc up and tinkered around inside any? a previous pc i had i used to work inside a lot for various reasons and apparently a power cable became loose. it was not loose enough to cause constant issues but enough under certain loads to cause random shut offs. i was in the process of disconnecting everything from the board to send it back when i noticed a cable snap back into place that i touched, connected everything back up and pc worked like a charm after. so its worth a shot before spending money on replacing anything at least.

If this happened from one day to another it seems like a hardware issue for certain.

Honestly i have way better hardware and never would attempt to run the game on full hd settings. Also, it might be good to know what other settings you have for example in NVIDIA control panel and in BIOS (e.g.: were u using dedicated or hybrid mode? or Did you overclock?)

I am on a laptop and I would never overclock. The more voltage you use the more likely things will die faster and in a laptop everything is much closer to each other thus it could cause major issues, impacting my CPU as well. However, not knowing more of the situation it is hard to define the issue.

I just hope you can get it fixed. I know how sad it is when your hardware dies... been there.
