'Lo.
Castiel has some wonderful information and you can find all sorts of neat topics there if you poke around that site. If you'd like to give it a try sometime (or just observe), feel free to add me to your friends list. I really like meeting new people and if I could help in any way, I'd like to lend a hand. Don't be intimidated by all of the rules and guidelines as you'll find most of us are eager to help new players and we know how things were when we began to play. Characters are always a work in progress and you shouldn't worry about having everything mapped out at the start. Most players will recognize an honest effort and be glad to help if you ask.
As Kagato has pointed out, there are all types of role players and some are less forgiving than others when it comes to IC behavior. If you're ever unsure, you can always send a polite tell to see if it'd be alright to join or observe. Browse a few of those guides, give a bit of thought to your character, and then try a scene or two. The best way to learn is to try!
Mind your feet, yeah?
