    I agree, DRK (and IMO WAR) are pretty boring and DRK is a mess design-wise. I frankly gave up levelling WAR after trying a few dungeons and realizing it's not going to change looking at the skill list.

    PLD and GNB feel really good to play, but balance is definitely important. PLD was excluded from groups in 3.0 for having slightly lower DPS because the game design so heavily rewards DPS. A fun job isn't fun if nobody will let you play with them.

    PLD were excluded in Heavensward raids not because they did low DPS they actually did fine in that department, they were excuded because their whole kit relied on mitigating physical damage, block also only worked on physical attacks at that time. They were exceptionaly bad at tanking in raids during that time because every TB was magical. Due to that groups took a DRK over a PLD anyday.

    Nah, I raided on PLD at that time. It was really DPS, A3S was primarily physical damage on the tank and that was usually the barrier for groups to progress past. A4S PLD did have problems with the last phase cycling cooldowns because of lack of magical mitigation as you say and having longer cooldown times, but it was doable. A1S is where PLD not working on magic came from, and it was true PLD ran out of cooldowns in A1S, but it was actually cleared first on PLD.

    I mean, block not working on magical damage and Halone only working on physical damage were both terrible, terrible design decisions, but they weren't the main reason PLD was excluded. You just had to sit in Sword Oath 100% of the time to make competitive DPS on PLD and that made it a worse tank by default.

    PLD on Heavenward was literally the squishiest tank due to Alex raids being mostly magic damage AND the lowest damage dealer tank. You can get away with one of the two but not with both at once thats the reason why PLD got shafted in favour of DRK that had higher damage AND better mitigations against magic stuff

    About the Sword Oath remember that most of tanks stayed on their damage stances as well

    It's not only the fact of Magical busters.

    Dark Knight had a lot of raid support including main tanking, throw dots anywhere, permanent -10% INT, Reprisal that was almost permanently up -10% damage, Blood Price, Low Blow spam, AOE support. Warrior was a literal DPS.

    All Paladin had was Shield Swipe, and Veil.

    On HW DRK kit was quite messy but had a very high celing making it a lot of fun to play because it was a very active and reactive job

    Yeah I remember that, back then I just played the story. But damn I loved reacting to parry procs etc. And then getting comfortable dropping tank stance (I know, any *good* tank wouldn't use tank stance after pulling etc etc).
    DRK was fun.

    There is a new edge lord in town, they go by Reaper, pretty sure that’s where most DRKs went.

    Those aren’t the type of people you want to play with anyway.
