[6.0 Post-Endwalker spoilers] Scope of the story

I keep seeing people ask how they're going to keep the story interesting with the scope as grand as it is in Endwalker. I feel like it isn't truly that massive though because we haven't really dealt with any gods yet in typical FF fashion. All of the "gods" we've faced have been man-made creations, we haven't dealt with anything truly in the realm of the metaphysical e.g. Necron, Bhunivelze, the Occuria

The final boss of this expansion is literally the manifestation of despair something that transcends the sense. We are in the realm of the metaphyiscal.

I don't think they need to keep escalating (nor want them to), and I think Square agrees considering Emet's speech before the climax about all the stuff on Eitheirys we still need to see felt very much like Square saying "We'll be looking at this in the future." Not every story and villain needs to outdo the previous in power level.

But also yes, Meteion was very much metaphysical already. She embodied the abstract concepts of death and despair. She was basically Necron with an actual backstory.

I imagine future enemies we face may not necessarily be more powerful/stronger than those we've currently encountered, but in the same way they introduced the new power of Dynamis, we may end up squaring off against forces where our Blessing of Light (do we still have that?) is not quite so effective against.

It's also possible that SE explores different planets in the FFXIV universe. The Meteia traveled to different worlds in search of intelligent life, and they were able to make contact with alien civilizations. This would turn the game in a very sci-fi direction, but the game already has pretty significant sci-fi elements in it.
