Daily server resets are one of the only things that will have any significant effect

While it's almost certainly fruitless to post this here, maybe it can get enough traction. It's at least worth a shot.

I write this as someone who has already finished MSQ, and is currently BiS after farming both extremes.

I sincerely believe the only reasonable action SE can take at this time is by reinstating daily server resets - turning the server and disconnecting everyone every day, probably around 2PM EST.

The reason is that a growing, significant number of players are bypassing AFK log outs every single day. Some do it by just babysitting the game, others do it with more questionable methods. Such methods are all over these forums and Reddit.

At this point, anyone who was using past methods of avoiding AFK (like hud layout, crafting, talking to NPC etc) have for the most part simply adapted to new methods.

There is little point in playing cat and mouse with these folks. Any improvements or increased restrictions to AFK detection will just be bypassed through other methods again.

The only thing I can reasonably see helping is the daily reset. Kick everyone out and make them manually log back in. Yes, I realize this would suck for the morning gamer crowd, but right now the people in most need of help are the day workers.

The situation is a classic example of a prisoner's dilemma. Only an extreme minority of the player base will not take measures to make sure they are not disconnected from the game, regardless of whether they are actually playing. Intervention is required to avoid this issue persisting for an unknown amount of time. I don't think it will just get better on its own soon enough.

They did a daily reset in Stormblood and it worked well.
Should def happen again because I have seen a person in NN who has never logged out since EW dropped.
It's not fair people bypassing the AFK timer. :/

I can only assume they have not done this yet is because they think it may do more harm than good as far as server stress goes.

You don't have to reset the entire servers, just the residential districts. People are botting inside locked houses/rooms to cheat the queue and it's a LOT of them.

sorry it's so big, I don't know how to resize it. this went on for 5 minutes...

Yeah I'd be lending my own voice to support the idea that they restart the data centers at 9am CET every morning for a week or 2. It would likely boot the long term afkers.

I'm sorry I can't agree with this. I support the afkers to be honest. If this company is dishonest about errors, and lack the skill to add a grace period after dc. It is a dog eat dog world, and if my friends are doing this to stay on so they can play with me. I support them 100 percent.

That's entirely a fair take. It's also one of the main reason the situation is what it is. Nobody wants to make a self-sacrifice so that some random player they don't know will have the chance to play more.

Go away. If you have a problem with SE take it up with them directly whining on the forums does nothing but shows your stupidity.

Nah, they'd have to randomize the time to a certain extent, or people would just log themselves back in immediately and go back to avoiding it.

What's happening is people are logging themselves in before they go to work, using their afk bot mod or crafting bot or whatever they have set up, and then coming home to a still logged in character.

Even if the reset was at a known time, as long as it was during the daytime hours, not everyone who is doing this will be capable of using remote desktop to log themselves back in.
