    It's definitely annoying, but I think it's working as intended.

    If I had to guess, I'd say they probably didn't want the monster's animation to suddenly jolt over to their dying state, since they seem to care so much about animation fidelity. Either that or their system simply can't handle the monster dying while they're in the middle of an attack.

    I think it's partly this, and partly wanting to give the mobs a "last ditch attack". In the case of funguars, when they inflate for their Queasy Cloud attack, it's a counter-attack that only goes off if they're attacked, and they seem to automatically inflate if they go below a certain %. That's partly why I made my suggestion of having them take one damage when it goes off, so they can essentially be "Dead" from damage, but still get off their last ditch counterattack as intended.
