Technically, the pandemic is not the real problem. The real problem is the shortage of semi-conductors; the pandemic makes it even worse by screwing over the supply chains. Otherwise, yeah, you're pretty spot on.Nobody is defending the server and queue issues; people who have been paying attention will have known ahead of time that there were going to be issues if they were just paying attention. Like, literally, what do you want us to do about it? Yoshi-P's team has already tried to put together a solution and were willing to pay more money for the deployment of better hardware to avoid server problems. Guess what, though--there's a global pandemic going on right now that's affecting both the supply of microchips and the ability to travel to the different datacenters for hardware deployment. They've exhausted their options.
Like me!(Aussie Balmungian). Although I did start ARR on a JP server, which was my old 1.0 server (Ridill), so I just stuck with it more for sentimental reasons than because of 'I get better latency'. But I moved to Balmung after a year and do not regret it, and the lag actually isn't that much worse, given the side of the country I'm on means my connection gets slingshot around SEA anyway before reaching SE's servers, so being on a JP server did little for my latency to the game.
^This. Everyone is in the same boat here. We all want to play this amazing game/expansion. And yes it sucks so much getting stuck in login for hours on end, especially for those whose time for gaming is limited due to real-life commitments. But SE are trying their best to rectify or lessen the problem but there is only so much they can do in the present time. Eventually the login queues will lessen as more and more players reach the end of content and decide to take a break having achieved level 90/finished the story/geared themselves up, as that what happens in every patch/expansion. Patience and understanding is very much needed here, not tinfoilhat-talk and insane conspiracy theories.
I love how the first few days of EA FFanboys would reply with dissertations about how the problem was because the superconductors had Covid or sth and to just be patient that the queues will be better, but as time went by and the situation did not get better and people started unearthing proof that this was SE's fault the FFanboys started getting more and more nervous and just start throwing insults.
Also again, if people are not able to play it's not free time. Specially if people are still not able to play during said "free" time

Agreed, they clearly don't care. They keep writing us detailed update newsletters every couple days to make fun of us, not because they care. Their investors probably don't give a toss either, maybe if they had upper UPPER management breathing down their necks, they'd feel a bit more concerned. No way that's happening though, sigh. They're just relaxing over there. They're on the beach in Cancun while the rest of us are fighting for our lives. No one has even gotten to finish Endwalker yet. Not a single person. Sigh. I just, sigh. Sigh. Thanks for making this thread.
This was a take that wasnt yet posted, so it's great to see it. Very unique and crucial. More people need to hear this shattering news. They just don't care. and also, they are relaxing. and also, YoshiP is just sitting there. Rolling his rings around his billionaire finger, he is just sitting there. If presented free servers, he would laugh and say no and tell us all to suffer. Great thread op.
The OCE servers were announced months before Endwalker launch, I'd also quietly remind you that the population of a REGION ( Oceania is a region, not a single nation ) has little to do with the games population...which is entirely a separate data set.
I submit that the question you should be asking yourself is not what the population of the US is, but how many actually PLAY FF 14.? One is not the other, by a long shot.
Oceania also includes Singapore, 5.686 million (2020), Philippines, 109.6 million (2020)..whose players will also more than likely move to the OCE servers as that will give them a better and far more stable connection..along with NZ and a host of other nations. That alone will make the OCE population quite sizeable.
Lest you miss my meaning, OCE players are scattered between US, EU and JP servers, the OCE playerbase is MUCH larger than you may know.
I am wondering if it had occurred to you that SE had ALREADY done a careful review of the games OCE population, and had already come up with the fact that the servers would be financially viable...and necessary for long term player satisfaction?
Lastly, OCE has put up with latency up to 400 ms or worse at times, the OCE servers will greatly ameliorate that issue and serve to increase the OCE playerbase , as latency will no longer be a problem for us. Its one thing to run a raid at 400 ms...and quite another at 40 ms, not so?
I am sorry NA is having a rough time, i am truly, but in counterpoint, I note that the OCE servers will provide others with the same quality of gameplay you now enjoy.
Having servers that give a substantial portion of the playerbase a better gaming experience will promote player retention. Thats a very good idea, especially looking to the games long term health..wouldnt you agree?
Or is it your view that anyone else other than Americans should be treated as second or third class customers?

Curious myself about what this proof is. We heading into some conspiracy theory territory I hope. I'm really tired of just outlooks that are disproven or explained away by how business really works, instead of just through some carefree consumer level logic (which would be amazingly terrific if reality was so kind). It's very boring.
Nah, you're just as ridiculous as the first day you were spamming your tantrums. From the very start it's been obvious you just want to start arguments and throw fits.I love how the first few days of EA FFanboys would reply with dissertations about how the problem was because the superconductors had Covid or sth and to just be patient that the queues will be better, but as time went by and the situation did not get better and people started unearthing proof that this was SE's fault the FFanboys started getting more and more nervous and just start throwing insults.

You'll grow up someday, champ.
???It just goes in line with them creating an Oceania server cluster, so that JP players can no longer have to interact with AUS players, who doesn't even have 1/10th the population of US alone. We had similar (more mild) versions of this issue during SB launch and almost non during ShB launch because it wasn't as popular during 5.0. But SE knew that their servers were complete garbage on NA during the summer, yet refused to upgrade or remedy it in any way.
Having a stable and wired connection yet having to babysit a 6 hour queue is complete bullocks. If you're defending this, yikes.
Why do you think their incentive for making Oceania servers is because JP don't want to play with them? I'm sure language barriers are an issue but I've been around a while and from what I understand Oceania players were clamoring for their own datacenter because they have to play with horrible ping.
Biggest reason right here. It was awful for them overall.???
