*SPOILERS* Regarding Hydaelyn

I want to say i truly enjoyed EW story and think it's best so far. But one thing is a bit bothering me.

When we finally meet Hydaelyn we have 5 min conversation and it goes pretty much fight me if you want to be prepared to face Meteion. But i struggle to understand what we gained from fighting her to death. I feel like it was forced, unnecessary and for emotional impact rather then good reason.

It was like here is that mother figure that guided you and helped in your darkest time now kill her if you want to face world consuming depression.

But then again i might have missed something in conversations that said why i have to fight her?

On a character level, we know that Venat was waiting to pass on until she knew that humanity could continue on without her help, something we proved by defeating her. Thematically, it fits that of mankind should move forward on its own terms, then it should do so on its own terms.

I wept when she died.

Didn't she said on Elpis that as long as humanity have hopes and something to live for she wouldn't want to return star.

The quote in particular from that scene is (referring to people):

Perhaps my future self is still waiting for it.

The last line in particular shows her thinking.

She had been weakening for years so she was saving what she had left for that moment.
I look at it as she was tired, she had been watching over the star for 1000s of years. So with the last of her strength she tested humanity and especially her champion on if they where ready to watch over the star with out her.

As for the suddenness of it, it really is no different than all our other interactions with her always far to brief with much more that could be said. The only difference this time is we got to know her much better when in Elpis.

She even refers to us as her "light of the future" before we return to our age. She hasn't just been waiting on humanity to prove itself, she's been waiting on us specifically.

It's Hydealyn making sure the WoL is ready, she does that more for herself and everyone else on the planet tbh. She's reaching her limit and doesn't want all the efforts she and other ppl made to go to waste. She only guives a chance to the WoL because she knows he can win.

At the end of the fight she knows the WoL is strong enough to win. She doesn't have to worry anymore and can rest in peace.

The only thing you get is Hydealyn complete trust.

And if we weren't ready, the Loporrits were. We were plan A, and she needed to make sure that, after everything that she had put into motion, we were fully ready to do our part.
