The difference is that you have many more ways to get a set of good end game gear in FFXIV without having to set foot in one of those raids that you're talking about. There is no incentive to exclude people from alliance raids or even leveling dungeons in the roulette. Imagine being stuck in the gear that you got from finishing the MSQ unless you're willing to repeatedly run high end content (10 runs per week to unlock three chances at loot) that you're not even allowed to queue for. I know some players in all games will always be elitist, and those are the players who tend to gravitate towards the extreme raids. However, in FFXIV, the rewards for behaving that way don't go beyond exclusive mounts, glamours, and titles. WoW, on the other hand, has built their entire endgame around the elitist culture.

And this is exactly why I dropped WoW even before all of the scandals hit the news; the endgame culture, in both raids and dungeons, was toxically insane and not even remotely worth putting up with. Most of everything about FFXIV has been a complete breath of fresh air (the only exception at this point being actually getting into the game, lol)

Everything about FFXIV has definitely been a huge breath of fresh air..except for trying and waiting to log in. LoL

I play and enjoy both games, and want both games to do well. I have cleared heroic Sanctum of Domination (Current raid) and have AotC on Sylvanas, so I'm not playing WoW as much right now. Also waiting for the Endwalker player surge to die down a bit so I can play more easily.

I wouldn't go that far. Super unhappy with the 2002s and the lags etc but to WoW? That games graphics are terrible and for the story everyone seems to love, it is good, not epic by any means.

Maybe it could be cause I have/had played WoW for 17 years. Shit just became stale and old. Reskins and shitty storytelling, and then throwing in the booty grabbing and WoW is now pure grade A shit.

So what exactly is wrong with former WoW players like myself playing FFXIV? I'm a customer paying for a product like anyone and I've simply decided this is the game I'd rather spend my time and money on.

I get the impression you're just going to come out with an argument that's nothing more than toxic gatekeeping. If you're going to hold that kind of opinion, at least have the balls to just say it.

It's main problem over the last 10 years or so has been the attitude that Everything About the Story that is Important must be Written in a Book and extensively hand-waved in-game.

How they handled the Trial of Garrosh after Mists (in a Book) was a crime against players everywhere.

WoW made a lot of poor decisions and will keep doing so (and maybe one day they'll realize their mistakes) and once the sting of that wears off - the players that left will go back to it for a time and then when their needs are not met the nostalgia wears off fast, and they'll find something better (not necessarily FF).

I played WoW for about 2 months but my experience was mostly positive, play wise. I didn't mind the ps1-early ps2 era graphics, and I liked the environments and the large amount of tamable creatures for hunters. But the community wasn't overly friendly to new players AT ALL, so- I left.

I am a gw2 refugee and in the content lull after the last SHB content dropped until EW release I went back to gw2 (for about a week total) after being absent from the game for 2 years, but I didn't know anyone anymore + the game just didn't feel right, like it had lost direction. I hate seeing a game that I used to LOVE begin to kill itself due to poor decisions and lack of good updates. I imagine long time wow players feel similar. Once the nostalgia wears off, it gets easier to say goodbye for the long haul.

Thing is WoW will take back all players if Blizzard gets their act together and actually give players what they want for once. Blizzard never failed this badly at a product launch.
