Tank self-sustain isn't going in validate healers when their main priority should be to take care of the squishies in party not just the one getting slapped.
Tank healing is good, but it's not a replacement for a healer in the party by a far shot.

I'm uh... not seeing the problem here. Healing is not a role. You are green DPS with some added utility. Where's the issue? Tanks having monstrous sustain just means ya'll can focus entirely on DPS until one of the red DPS does something dumb.



The issue there is that this is exactly how the game is designed, but how the healers are not designed. Incredibly bloated healing kits while the DPS is spamming one button.
That is the problem. I came into ARR to heal. It was nice to be a healer in 2.0. It actually felt rewarding. 3.0 was still pretty nice as well. I disliked losing cleric stance, shadow flare, bio 2, and several other spells but oh well. 5.0 and 6.0 is really screwing the pooch for lifetime healers and a third of the player base is well. This is probably not the chat room for it. But sorry I am a healer and not a dps. I will heal and want the role back. Tank sustain is one thing but tank overwhelmingly healing on par with a pure healer is out of the question.
It actually makes me and I am sure other healers do not want to deal damage if it forces the hand of SE to change mechanics back to where it's supposed to be. With us healing. If we go by your logic I don't see a problem with tanks being turned into a DPS role as well with no tanking or healing requirements? Just remove the healer and tank tag and let aggro randomly ping pong bounce with all dps having self-healing kits.

While I do love the insane sustain we tanks have now, this has always been an ongoing issue throughout FFXIV.
Healers are generally invalidated or simply relegated to the babysitting role -hence why I primarily tank now, instead of healing. It doesn't feel good when the system tries to tell you that your role is important, but the reality of it all is that you are not needed.
I will say, though, that this expac actually gave *something* to healers, instead of just taking away. But there does need to be a more dynamic integration of the Hearler/support role and the actual battle system of "More DPS". Because FFXIV is tuned in such a way that healing is a detriment, and youu need to pump as much damage as possible on all roles.
Where are these tanks? As a healer no tank I have played with can even come close to self sustaining unless its a paladin holding all their mp. A warrior tried but was easily killed when they couldnt recovered from a tank buster.




Yeah I've got to agree with this.
Bosses seem to be mostly doable without a healer, so long as the tank and damage dealers are all careful to avoid unnecessary damage, but the full wall to wall pull kept going by only tank self-sustain seems more meme than reality to me, so far at least.
You must've been pretty unlucky so far. There are paladins and warriors healing themselves through wall to wall pulls right now, and that's without the former hoarding MP for Clemency. The amount of sustain these two jobs have is off the charts, but it is both mechanically and thematically appropriate for them to. Gunbreaker isn't too shabby at staying alive either, but it can't sustain as well as the aforementioned jobs. DRK, on the other hand, ... hoboy. Lots of damage, but their sustain somehow seems to have gotten even worse than it already was.

There's pretty much no difference between now and ShB for healing in dungeons. You still just heal through everything with ogcds. Tanks getting more self healing just means you can use a couple less of them on big pulls, it doesn't completely change the game.
I think it's fine, idk how many times in the last MSQ dungeon on 2nd boss the healer just stands in the middle and I gotta heal myself by myself all fight, you can sit on the ground while we finish I don't wanna restart because they "forgot" not to stand in the middle and get zapped instantly. If they're new I'll give em a heads up but at least 3 times I've had to heal myself and my group while the healer watches.
