Do scythes drop on ShB dungeons? Because I haven't seen any yet. And if not, how am I supposed to get an upgrade before level 80? The initial ilvl 385 one won't do at all.

Considering that Reaper starts at 70, yes they should.
I've got a Lakeland Scythe from Holminster Switch, so yes.
As for pre-80 you could just buy the Augmented Scaeven Magitek Scythe at i400 right at 70 to give yourself a head start.

Yeah I've gotten some while levelling.
Disappointed there isn't a Deepshadow scythe, though.
You can buy 400 ilvl weapons for poetics in Rhalgar's Reach - new weapons were added for Reaper and Sage.
The Fae Scythe is pretty cool, and dyable off the bat. Used that one pretty much all the way to Endwalker content.
All dungeons 71-89 (exempting lv 80, of course, which drop no weapons) have scythes. Plus the crystarium, crypt, 2 PotD, lv 70 poetic, and finally eden eternity savage have a RPR weapon available before lv 90.
Note that the vendor in tempest has a dyeable version of the reaper starting weapon once you hit 80.
Lastly, they will likely add craftable lv 80 trial weapons in the future as usual, so secure mats now (i.e. Wing, blade, etc) before prices jump!
Lots to collect!

DNC and GNB only got Shinryu for the Level 70 Trial Weapons, while Byakko, Suzaku, Seiryu, and Tsukuyomi all got skipped. RPR and SGE are probably gonna end up in a similar position, maybe getting crafted version of SoS for the eventual Ascian Ultimate down the line. The amount of new gear in this expac is honestly tragically low, with the only new combat gear coming from the level 83 dungeon, the level 85 dungeon, the Artifact gear, and the Tomestone gear. Seriously, that's it. Level 81 Dungeon, Level 87 Dungeon, Crafted 80, Crafted 82, Crafted 84, Crafted 86, and Crafted 88 are all recolours of existing gear. The chances of them adding in Crafted EX Weapons is hilariously low.
