Shout Chat and Spoilers

I'm getting this out there as more of a PSA than anything. I feel as though it shouldn't even be necessary to say this since anyone four expansions into XIV should know better, yet necessary it certainly seems. I've encountered, on a number of occasions, players actually using shout chat to discuss MSQ details and plot devices in Old Sharlayan (and other areas for that matter). It goes without saying that this is definitely not okay. Given that many players are behind in MSQ progress due the server congestion and relatively messy early access period, you are ruining the expansion for others! If you are exposed to players doing this, please ask them to stop, and if you are one of the people doing it, seriously....don't be that guy.

Just disable shouts logging and yelling, that's all. People doing people things.

People who use shout chat to "discuss" story plots don't care about other players being behind. They do it for the attention. It's sad, but the best course of action would be to disable every chat, except for maybe FC.

Agree with this. While doing EW MSQ players should disable shout + yell and set themselves to busy to disable direct PMs as well. This is primarily if you don't want to get spoiled.

Afterwards its fine to revert the settings but it helps a lot to avoid potential spoilers.

Always gonna be jerk-offs that do this, unfortunately. For that reason, in every MMO I play I always have different chat windows filtering different things to avoid this very issue. Since Endwalker launched I haven't seen a single spoiler since I pretty much always log off at my house and I always have my "npc dialog only" chat window in focus. Since this game doesn't have chat bubbles I don't need to worry about getting spoiled that way either.

Yeah, the night before the servers come down for a new expansion, I always filter out all the chat channels on my main tab. They don't go back on until I've finished the MSQ. I also avoid the forums/reddit/etc. It really should be second nature for folks if they're interested in the story, especially in a game where so many people esc their way through stuff and shout about everything.
