The same system is available in World of Warcraft and it works perfectly there.
This does not mean you should not try to fix your connection if you can. It may be SE's responsibility to make logging in easier but your internet is making a bad situation worse. And SE can do absolutely nothing about your personal internet connection.

Someone in my fc kept getting kicked out of the game due to direct x errors that they have been enduring for many months now. Instead of saying "ugh if SE fixed the queues my crashes wouldn't matter" they researched on how to address the problem. They're no longer crashing so they're no longer getting kicked out of the game unless it's an issue on SE's end.

I know. But I cant pull out a nail and a hammer and fix my internet, some of us are not as lucky as others with respect to the speed, performance, and reliability of internet connections due to a number of factors such as geographical location, Internet Service Provider, etc. I am not blaming square enix for my disconnects either, I am simply highlighting the fact that a grace period for people that disconnect would be a very nice quality of life feature...especially during peak hour gaming.

By the way, this disconnect never bothered me before because its been a long while since FFXIV faced so many queue times. Once EW hype dies down, I suspect the same will happen and things will go back to normal. But it is at least worth considering by Square Enix.

Note: This is exactly why I prefaced my initial post with the statement "I know what other people will say, fix the internet issue." Because I am aware of it, but am proposing that Square Enix could also help alleviate the pressure from people that disconnect. I'm sure you can see the merit in that request?

I can but I have come across people who don't try to improve their game or connection stability even if they easily can simply because it wasn't a big problem before. Some have this idea in their head that just because it wasn't a big problem before means it should not be a big problem now, and so that means they should not even try to make their situation better. I'm not talking just about FFXIV. I have seen people do this in other games.

That being said I know some issues can be difficult to tackle even with the bounty of information the internet has. I just wanted to say that if a person can try to make their chances of playing the game smoother then they should.

And while WoW has a better situation with their servers we should remember Blizzard have a significantly higher budget for WoW and its servers. The Mog Station funded the FFXIV EU servers, SE didn't hand the FFXIV team the money for them. Also Blizzard didn't have to face suddenly needing to increase server capacity during a pandemic and an industry-wide hardware shortage.

Sure SE can change how their servers function to make things better but that is easier said than done and would likely require the servers being taken down for quite some time to achieve this. It's probably why we got a two week delay for EW launch. And SE have cannibalised their own dev back-up servers to improve the queues and disconnect issues for players...which just shows how horrifically bad the hardware situation is and how desperate SE are to improve things.

I completely agree with your assessment and observation. Let's just say that the idea of having a grace period for people that disconnect is a wish list item for me. If SE officially say that it is technically not possible to achieve or not feasible to implement, then I would let it go and keep playing the game. I wish I knew what their official stance on this proposal is.

Unfortunately, my issue is more of a once per day IP reset by my ISP rather than a 2002 problem. I simply disconnect. I think I never noticed it until now because a lot of the triple A games have a system in place to help players stay in game even after disconnecting for 10 seconds by automatically reconnecting them etc.

Your comment is still appreciated, thank you for trying to help.

FWIW, and somewhat belatedly, it might still be worth trying a VPN. There are a number of gaming-focused VPNs out there where it won't drop the connection on the other side right away, meaning that if you have the VPN set to automatically reconnect, you might have a 'hiccup' where your net froze, but then as the VPN came back up the connection would unfreeze. Even though the IP you have has changed in that case, the IP on the other side of the VPN -- the IP that the FFXIV servers see, in other words -- hasn't.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.
