Unfortunately, my issue is more of a once per day IP reset by my ISP rather than a 2002 problem. I simply disconnect. I think I never noticed it until now because a lot of the triple A games have a system in place to help players stay in game even after disconnecting for 10 seconds by automatically reconnecting them etc.

Your comment is still appreciated, thank you for trying to help.

FWIW, and somewhat belatedly, it might still be worth trying a VPN. There are a number of gaming-focused VPNs out there where it won't drop the connection on the other side right away, meaning that if you have the VPN set to automatically reconnect, you might have a 'hiccup' where your net froze, but then as the VPN came back up the connection would unfreeze. Even though the IP you have has changed in that case, the IP on the other side of the VPN -- the IP that the FFXIV servers see, in other words -- hasn't.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

I know what other people will say, fix the internet issue. But disconnects can happen to anyone, at any time...so a better solution would be if the game developers could enable a system that gives you a buffer time/safety net, allowing you to bypass the queue if you immediately try to log back in within 5 minutes of your disconnect. The same system is available in World of Warcraft and it works perfectly there.

Edit - Side Note: I have been monitoring my disconnects and, as described later in the thread, have noticed a trend where my automatic reset happens once every day an hour earlier than the previous day (which is hilarious). I raised this up with my ISP and it seems I have to pay extra for the privilege of not getting this daily disconnect. So ridiculous...have to pay more to get a reliable internet connection that I am already paying for. All timing is local time which is GMT + 3.

Alot of this could be resolved by SE, by allowing a bigger window for not being connected, it reacts pretty much at once, if you miss one signal to the server and DC's one and yes that is possible even with fiber optic networking cabled to get a reset that take maybe 1-2 seconds once a day. = Server Record it as disconnected and instantly kicks off, a little longer window could not hurt I guess, it is not like you will be bugged by 56K modem fanatics or ISDN 64kb anything fanatics.

This would be a dream for me.

I have definitely lost solo runs of Palace of the Dead NUMEROUS times by the game suddenly disconnecting me. I swear it happens more often in there. And a disconnect in Palace/Heaven that boots you from the game registers as a loss/death.

My ISP does the same thing, always during peak hours and always disconnects me and makes me to requeue

You could try one thing: reset your router in a timeframe when you usually do not play. Many ISPs have 24h disconnect. If you play from 8 pm - 11 pm then reset you router at 0 am. Maybe your ISP will disconnect you at 0 am next day because of the 24h disconnect.

    Cheers

It depends on the type of service, but particularly with cable sometimes newer standards are considered compatible with older ones yet modems made to use those standards will cause an issue exactly like this with many ISPs - a daily disconnect for less than a couple minutes at a predictable time. If you own your modem and have to buy a new one to test it out, that's probably not the best plan considering how brief the interruption is, but if you just get a modem lent to you by your ISP you can usually just request a replacement and this type of issue could go away. For OP or anyone else, if it's free to you this is worth a try.
