Given how long the shield lasts I actually think it's ok being tied to Carbuncle. After all the little fellow has to do something and only has a couple abilities.

Except historically that isn't what happens. They fixed MCH to actually make it a Machinist in Shadowbringers and got rid of the randomized rotation. People picked up the job and went on to main it in numbers that eclipsed the previous mains who "loved" it for all the wrong reasons. Maybe they'll bring back a combination of that for a limited job or something. Show your support!
Anyway the same concept applies here. Summoners are everywhere now, largely enjoying themselves and rocking the Rydia glamour besides. The weirdness is gone and the occasional ghosting only seems to happen in pre-90 content where the last thing anyone needs to be doing is chasing numbers. After 90 your primals show up and do their attack instantly, then leave. The dot gameplay might come back in the form of another job someday, if you ask nicely enough.
In any case, it's completely fine also to level a class then step away from it and come back to it later. Just because someone isn't playing SMN or MCH right this moment doesn't mean they don't like the class and won't use it later on. Right now I have to work on Sage because I want my level 90 trial weapons and I want a healer that isn't Scholar to use in endgame content. That doesn't mean that I'm not a Summoner main, I just want to do something else for a bit. That's the beauty of this game. You don't have to be married to any single job, so if new Summoner isn't your thing then by all means try out another job.

Yeah...except it can be proven that mch and drk are played less according to FFLOGS since it is essentially a sample size of the player base so yeah again you prove you are either a moron or a trollExcept historically that isn't what happens. If you unironically believe that more people played machinist-mage or machinist with a randomized rotation and a heat gauge mechanic that made no sense, I don't know what to say. I was around for that era and boy did people not like the state of things back then.

Your join date: Sep 2021
ZCrash's join date: Sep 2013
Hmm i wonder who knows more about how things were in ARR/HW......

This is going to surprise some people but the join date is not the same thing as someone's actual start of gameplay. You can start playing in August 2013 and not join until 2015, or if you forget your login information and make a new account the dates would also not be a good way to know when someone started. I was here for the days when Paladins could cast Raise and Stoneskin. Bards were using flaming arrows and leaving behind puddles. Ninja used to have an ability to coat their daggers with poison. Exalted Detriment was AST's Esuna. My MCH turrets could restore TP and MP. I've seen it all.

The problem you will find in this forum, is people only think about whats good for their argument and not think about actual reality. This is going to surprise some people but the join date is not the same thing as someone's actual start of gameplay. Having gotten to play SMN through the EX trials now... I love it. Choosing primal order according to fight phase feels really good.
I think Ifrit and Maybe Phoenix (with 1-2 and oGCD combo) should be full melee, with phoenix ending with a gap creator. I really like two Ifrit melee combo, ithink they were onto a winner there. However I understand it is a caster and is what people play it for, but can wish.
