    Anybody else think Phoenix is just a lame summon in general? I'd rather be able to summon Odin and have him bust out a zantetsuken FF5 style or something. We already have Garuda for our birb.

    That said, new SMN is very pleasing to look at and easy to play. I like it but I'm curious to see where it goes in the future.

    I don't. I quiet enjoy Phoenix, both looks and skillset. I have used the heal multiple times to save someone with.
    Not that I wouldn't want to see an Odin summon to just obliterate something. I just think Summoner is lacking in many beneficial utility spells and would rather not give up another for a melee Bahamut.

    I think the ability is cool, just find Phoenix itself kind of boring compared to some of the other summons we could be drawing from in FF history. I would love some more support and buff/debuff type summons.

    Says the 1-2 switcharoo combo until 5 seconds of melee class lol, if those spells are just "recolored ruins", then all of Red mages basic combo skills are just recolored aero balls you use more skills during a phase than "aero, switch to fire, aero again, switch to fire" lol.

    Yea... At least RDM is actively trying to fill up both white and black gauges with 2/3 4/5. SMN is basically Titan 1+2,1+2, Ifrit 1,1+2,2, Garuda is 2 + 1,1,1,1 then Demi, rinse and repeat.

    Giving you a bar doesn't change the fact you're essentially casting the same spell, until a brief melee window, rinse repeat. It's literally the same thing as SMN, only now SMN can get into it's "ultra mode" faster than a RDM, and SMN's skills are all tied to the summons. I don't get how casting different versions of jolt + weaving in ogcds is different from Summon + Summon skil + weaving in ogcds. Atleast there's some diversity in choosing the necessary summon, and all of them have a unique 2 skill. Phoenix has a dot regen that can be thrown on anyone, garuda a dot aoe, ifrit a charge ability. All of this opens the door for them to get even more creative with the summon skills in the future.

    The fact that you even have to pay attention to a bar and decide what to cast based on the context of that bar, already makes it tons more complex then current summoner. Also, I don't trust SE with "in the future" type stuff because they have shown that they won't follow up like that with other classes like MCH.

    Fine, remove all animation and you are simply pressing numbers on a keyboard; RDM has more, period.
